Robert Henry Silva, 66, of Park Street, North Attleboro, died on Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Providence, Rhode Island. He was the husband of Linda Lee (Machado) Silva to whom he was married on April 22, 1967. Born in Providence, Rhode Island on March 29, 1945, he was a son of the late Madeline (Tessier) Silva and stepson of the late Raymond Major. He was raised and educated in Pawtucket, Rhode Island where he was a graduate of Davies Vocational Technical High School. He was a North Attleboro resident for the past 25 years having previously resided in South Attleboro and his native community of Pawtucket, Rhode Island. As a member of the Rhode Island National Guard, Mr. Silva was activated to active duty with the United States Army during the Vietnam era and served admirably from August 1, 1968 until his honorable discharge on October 17, 1969 and his transfer back to the Rhode Island National Guard. He was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Ribbon; the Overseas Bar and the Good Conduct Medal. Mr. Silva was a tool maker and head mechanic for the maintenance garage at the former Foxboro Company for 30 years prior to his retirement. He was also the owner and operator of the former Poor Bobs Garage on Park Street in North Attleboro for more than 40 years. As a boating enthusiast, one of his favorite pastimes was spending time aboard his boat sailing the waters. He enjoyed traveling with a special love for the time spent in Key West, Florida. In addition to his wife of 44 years, he leaves two children: Robert Brian Silva, Sr. and his wife, Dawn Marie (Beauregard) Silva, of North Attleboro and Kimberly A. Arrighie of Pawtucket, Rhode Island; four grandchildren: Robert Brian Silva, Jr. of North Attleboro; Rebecca L. Silva of North Attleboro; Jake Wyatt R. Arrighie of Pawtucket, Rhode Island and Jack Morgan R. Arrighie of Pawtucket, Rhode Island; a cousin: Duke Duclos of East Providence, Rhode Island and several extended family members and dear friends. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visitation with Veterans Honors on Saturday, June 4, 2011 from 2:00 5:00 PM in the Memorial Chapel of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, mile on left), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro. Those in need of a ride to visitation may simply call the funeral home at (508) 695-0200 to make an advance reservation for such gratis transportation. Childrens room available during visitation. Funeral services with military honors will be conducted privately. Burial will be private. Please do not send flowers.
