Robert Shawn Smith, 41, of New Taunton Avenue, Norton; formerly of Plainville, North Attleboro and Taunton, passed away peacefully at his residence on Saturday morning, October 1, 2011 after having been surrounded by the love of his dedicated and loving family, devoted caregivers and dear friends. Born in Norwood, Massachusetts on February 7, 1970, he was a son of Diane M. (Landry) Martelli and Albert Martelli, Jr. of North Attleboro and Richard H. Smith, III and Claire Smith of West Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. He was raised in Plainville where he resided until moving to North Attleboro in 1986 and resided until 1992 when he moved to Taunton and later Norton. Mr. Smith was a 1992 graduate of Franklin High School. For many years he was affiliated with Attleboro Enterprises and had been employed at Papa Ginos and Star Market in Franklin. Along with his family, he attended St Marthas Roman Catholic Church in Plainville. An ardent sports fan, he was dedicated to all of the New England sports teams the New England Patriots, Boston Red Sox, Boston Bruins and Boston Celtics. He enjoyed music, particularly hard rock and was a fan of the band, KISS. Playing UNO and the drums were among his favorite pastimes. He will always be remembered for the love he brought to others. His family gratefully acknowledges and extends their sincerest appreciation to the staff of Strategies to Independence and the Hospice Services of Massachusetts for their care during his life and during his final illness. In addition to his parents, he leaves six siblings: Richard H. Smith, IV of Ringwood, New Jersey; Tracie M. Osborne of Plainville; Sean P. Smith of West Palm Beach Gardens, Florida; Lisa M. Whalen of Cumberland, Rhode Island; Stephen J. Martelli of Attleboro and Jennifer L. Martelli of North Attleboro; a grandfather: Albert Martelli, Sr. of Attleboro and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, caregivers and dear friends. He was the beloved grandson of the late Wilfred and Irene (Desjardins) Landry; Richard H., Jr. and Alice Smith and Lois J. (Reeves) Martelli. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visitation on Tuesday, October 4, 2011 from 5:00 8:00 PM in the Memorial Chapel of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, mile on the left) Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro. Those in need of a local ride to visitation may call the funeral home at (508) 695-0200 to make an advance reservation for such gratis transportation. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend the Funeral on Wednesday, October 5, 2011 at 9:15 AM from the Memorial Chapel of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, mile on the left) Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM at St. Marthas Roman Catholic Church, 227 South Street Route 1A, Plainville. Burial will be private in Oak Knoll Cemetery, Rehoboth. Childrens room available during visitation and while the funeral cortege is being organized. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Dyer-Lake Charitable Foundation, Inc., a registered 501 (c) (3) organization, 161 Commonwealth Avenue, North Attleboro, MA 02760 to benefit The Hospice Services of Massachusetts.
