Robert Clarence Ripley, 81, of Attleboro, MA, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 22, 2022, at his home with his family. He was the loving husband of Helen (McGarty) Ripley, whom he married on June 8, 1974.
Born on October 24, 1940, in Attleboro, MA, he was the son of Richard A. Ripley and Gertrude K. (Myatt) Ripley.
Robert graduated from Attleboro High School in 1958 and completed an A.B. at Brown University in 1962. He went on to earn a Ph.D. in Anatomy at the University of California, Los Angeles in 1966. He then returned to Brown University and enjoyed a long and satisfying career as a teacher and administrator, until he retired in 2005 as Associate Dean of the College.
Robert pursued a wide range of interests and adventures, which he most enjoyed in the company of his family. He found special joy in far-reaching travels, eclectic culinary experiences, sailing on Narragansett Bay, and music of all kinds. His friends and family will remember his charismatic personality, with its unique combination of intelligence, humor, and kindness.
In addition to his wife, Helen, he leaves a loving family: Jonathan Ripley and his partner Vito Politano of Boston, MA; and Alexander Ripley and his husband, Edward Steinemann, of Chicago, IL, and their sons Myles and Colin. Robert also leaves his sister-in-law Ann Millard and her husband James of East Greenwich, RI and their children Eric, Scott, and Adam.
All services will be privately held.
