Robert Alton Grosse, 77, of Rosewood Lane, North Attleboro, died on Thursday, June 23, 2011 at the Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, Rhode Island following a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of Joan Marie (Joyce) Grosse to whom he was married on April 23, 1955. Born in Attleboro, Massachusetts on April 20, 1934, Mr. Grosse was a son of the late Albert William and Avis (Simpson) Grosse. He resided in his native community of North Attleboro for most of his life with the exception of the time spent in the military and the four years he resided in Southern California. Mr. Grosse attended North Attleboro schools until transferring to the former Rhode Island Trade School where he was a 1952 graduate. He later earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the former Bryant College, now Bryant University, in Smithfield, Rhode Island in 1970. He had also attended the East Coast Aerotech School. He enlisted in the United States Air Force on July 9, 1952 and proudly served until his honorable discharge on July 8, 1956. He was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Mr. Grosse was employed by Texas Instruments in Attleboro from 1962 until his retirement in 1999. He served in numerous roles including manufacturing superintendent, materials buyer, components buyer, section supervisor and purchasing manager. In earlier years he enjoyed supporting his sons athletic events by attending games. Mr. Grosse served as a volunteer and as secretary of the North Attleboro Pop Warner football league. He served as a volunteer for A.R.C. in Attleboro. He will be lovingly remembered as a handy man that could fix anything and was often called upon by family and friends for such tasks. His happiest times were those spent with his family, in particular his cherished grandchildren, creating lifelong memories. In addition to his wife of 56 years, he leaves three children: Douglas W. Grosse of Midlothian, Virginia; Curt S. Grosse of Charlotte, North Carolina and Todd A. Grosse of North Attleboro; six grandchildren: Shannon Grosse and Heather Grosse both of Midlothian, Virginia; Nicholas Grosse and Jack Grosse both of Charlotte, North Carolina; Joseph Grosse of North Attleboro and Katie Grosse of Charlotte, North Carolina and a sister-in-law: Irene Hammond, wife of his late brother William Grosse who died in 2001, of Cambria, California and several extended family members and dear friends. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visitation with Veterans Honors on Monday, June 27, 2011 from 5:00 8:00 PM in the Memorial Chapel of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, take a right at the top of the exit, of a mile on the left), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro. Family and friends are invited to attend the funeral on Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at 8:45 AM from the Memorial Chapel of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, take a right at the top of the exit, of a mile on the left), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. Mark Roman Catholic Church, 115 Stanley Street, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro with the Rev. David A. Costa, officiating. Burial will be private in Mount Hope Cemetery and Arboretum, North Attleboro. Following church services an invitation will be extended to join the family for a time of continued fellowship and refreshments at a location to be announced. Please omit flowers.
