FERNBERG, Robert W. of Plainville, MA passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 11th, 2026 in the presence of his adoring family. He was born in Boston on August 23rd, 1957 to the late Robert and Nancy (Leary) Fernberg. Bob was the devoted husband of his wife Ann (Sardinha) Fernberg. Bob and Ann have three children, Eric (Hillary) of Peabody, Alyssa Tanguay (Joseph) of Norton, and Greg of Plainville. He was lovingly known as "Bumpy" by his grandchildren Thomas and Maverick Tanguay. He is also survived by his sister Ann Abbott (Dana), and brothers Mark (Pam), John (Judy), and Paul, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Bob grew up in Dedham, and flourished as a natural, gifted athlete at every sport he tried, whether it was baseball, football, hockey, or golf. He was an exceptional hockey player and leader, earning all-star honors while a captain at Dedham High School in the mid 1970's. He went on to play college hockey at the University of Lowell and Bentley University, where he earned 1st team ECAC honors as the team's MVP for their championship team his senior year. Despite his individual success, he was the model of humility and unselfishness as both a player and teammate.

Bob and Ann married on June 14th, 1986. Together they raised their three children in North Attleboro. Bob's unwavering devotion to his family was expressed through his loyalty, compassion, and strength. He carried the discipline he developed through his athletic pursuits into the challenges of fatherhood, setting a strong example for his children.

Bob began his career at Baystate York Company, then joined Charles D. Sheehy where he excelled as an outside sales representative for over 30 years and developed life-long relationships with many of his industry colleagues. While working at Sheehy, he had a second job as the accountant for Equipment Direct Sales for 29 years.

Bob shared his love and warm smile wherever he went, especially when spending time with his beloved grandchildren. He showed his support for Thomas by attending grandparent lunches at preschool and never missing a tee ball or soccer game.

In his free time, you could often find Bob on the golf course with his many friends, spending time with his family and grandchildren, or enjoying one of his favorite simple pleasures, going out for ice cream. Bob was an avid Boston sports fan and loved cheering on his teams, whether he was watching from the comfort of home or experiencing the excitement of being at a game. He never needed much to make him happy, just a golf course, a good game, or his family by his side. If he had any one of those three, you were guaranteed to see him smile.

We are immensely grateful for the support from the nurses at Mass General this past month. Throughout his illness, Bob's kind and caring nature shone through and he was smiling until the end.

A wake will be held at Dyer Lake Funeral Home, 161 Commonwealth Ave, North Attleborough on Monday, Aug 17 from 4-8 pm. A funeral mass will be held at St John the Evangelist Church, 1 St John's Place, Attleboro on Tuesday, Aug 18 at 10 am, followed by interment at Mt. Hope Cemetery, North Attleboro.
