Robert Joseph Erwin

Robert Joseph Erwin, 86, of Attleboro, MA passed away surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday January 8, 2025, at Hope Health Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence, RI. He was the beloved husband of 60 years of Irene (St. James) Erwin.

Robert was born in Pawtucket, RI. He was the son of the late Robert H. and Doris M. (Brassard) Erwin. He was raised and educated in Attleboro and Norton and was a graduate of Monsignor James Coyle High School class of 1956.

Robert served six years in the U.S. Army Reserve and worked for the Mount Vernon Silver Co. as a tool maker for 12 years. He then became a partner in the Mansfield Machinery Company for 38 years until retirement.

Robert, a long-time communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church where he also served as a Eucharistic Minister. He was a volunteer for the Saint Vincent de Paul Society’s food pantry and clothing center, where he held the office of President for six years. He was awarded the Marion Medal and continued serving after leaving the presidency.

Robert was also an avid fan of the New England Patriots Football Team. He was a season ticket holder since their inception in 1960. He also enjoyed spending summers on Cape Cod and attending his grandchildren's sporting events.

Robert was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.

He is survived by his wife Irene (St. James) Erwin and he was the beloved father of Robert and his wife Maura (Flynn) Erwin of Pottstown Pennsylvania, and William and his wife Tara (Centazzo) Erwin of Attleboro. He was the proud Grandfather of Hailey (Erwin) Santarpio her husband E.J. Santarpio and Great Grandfather of Luke Santarpio. He was also the loving Grandfather of Catherine Erwin, Lainey Erwin, Robert Erwin, Hope Erwin, Thomas Erwin, and Brady Erwin.

Robert leaves a brother, David Erwin and sister-in-law, Antonia Erwin, and a sister, Nancy (Erwin) Stillson and her late husband Terry Stillson. He was the brother-in-law of Yvone and her late husband Richard Simkins, and Theresa and her husband Dennis Murphy and many nieces and nephews and dear friends.

Family and friends are cordially invited to gather for a visitation on Friday January 17, 2025, in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer Lake Funeral Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue. Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro, MA from 4:00pm until 7:00pm.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John the Evangelist Church, One Saint John Place, Attleboro, MA on Saturday January 18, 2025, at 10:00 AM with the Rev. Craig Pregana, Pastor, officiating.

There will be no public funeral cortege from the funeral home prior to the commencement of the Funeral Mass.

Burial will follow at the St. John Cemetery, West St., Attleboro, MA.
