Robert Edward Doherty

Robert Edward Doherty, 76, of Norton, passed away at home on Sunday, February 16, 2014. He was the husband of the late Roberta Georgina (Mortimer) Doherty who died on July 20, 2006 and to whom he was married on May 25, 1959. Born in Boston, MA on October 14, 1937, he was the son of the late Eugene B. and Phebie A. (George) Doherty. Mr. Doherty was a graduate of Boston Latin High School in Boston, Class of 1956 and served his country in the United States Army until his honorable discharge in 1964. He was employed as a truck driver at the Penske Company for 10 years prior to his retirement. Mr. Doherty was known as a family man who adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His favorite pastimes included football and listening to music, particularly blues and jazz. He especially enjoyed the times he spent hummingbird watching. He is survived by his children: Lisa Ann Bibbo of New Jersey and her late husband, Paul Joseph Bibbo, who passed on August 5, 2013; and Dyanne M. Waddington and her husband, Ronald R. Waddington of East Freetown; two sisters: Mary and Helen Doherty; nine grandchildren: Amanda, Shawn and Patrick McAvory; Tara Murray: Paul Bibbo; Nicole Shaffer; Griffin Gardner; Jacqulyn Bibbo and Tristan Waddington; five great-grandchildren: Haileigh Jarvis; Cheyanne McAvory; Talan Murray; Alivia Shaffer and Brya Murray. He also leaves several nieces and nephews. Family and friends are cordially invited to attend visitation on Thursday, February 20, 2014 from 5:00-8:00 PM and funeral services immediately following visitation at 8:00 PM in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home - the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right, mile on the left), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro. Childrens room is available during the visitation and funeral service. Burial will be private.
