Richard Amsey Thompson, Jr., 71, of Mount Hope Street, North Attleboro, died on Saturday, November 15, 2014 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Carolyn C. (Coburn) Thompson to whom he was married July 11, 1964 in North Attleboro, Massachusetts. Born in Damariscotta, Maine on August 25, 1943, he was a son of Gladys (Baum) Plossay of South Jefferson, Maine and the late Richard Amsey Thompson, Sr. He was a 1962 graduate of Lincoln Academy and was a 1968 graduate of the former Bryant College, now Bryant University, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in business management. Richard moved to North Attleboro in 1988 from Cramerton, North Carolina where he lived for 10 years. He lived four years in North Attleboro, 5 years in Anoka, Minnesota, and four years in Plymouth, New Hampshire previously. For ten years, Mr. Thompson was the owner and operator of R & D Computer Systems in North Carolina. He attended Centenary United Methodist Church in Attleboro. His favorite pastimes included hunting, fishing, photography and playing the guitar however his most treasured times were those spent creating lifelong memories with his family and friends. Mr. Thompson enjoyed volunteering at church bean suppers and at the Grace Episcopal and Central Congregational Churches soup kitchen and food share programs. In addition to his wife and mother, he leaves three children: Amy Thompson Hale and her husband, Kevin Hale, of Hartland, Maine; Mark Richard Thompson and his wife, Kelly (Theriault) Thompson, of Penacook, New Hampshire and Stephanie Katharine Thompson of North Attleboro; seven grandchildren: Alexander, Matthew, Emily, Alyssa, Connor, Madison and Jacob; a sister: Shirley Thompson Johnson of Nobleboro, Maine; two nephews: Stephen and Glen and several extended family members and dear friends. Visitation has been respectfully omitted. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend a Celebration of His Life Memorial Service on Saturday, November 22, 2014 at 3:00 PM at the Centenary United Methodist Church, 39 North Main Street, Attleboro. Burial will be private at a later date in Mount Hope Cemetery and Arboretum, North Attleboro. Flowers are accepted and should be delivered to Centenary United Methodist Church.
