Richard Joseph Mccarthy Sr.

January 15, 1944 — August 20, 2019

Richard Joseph McCarthy Sr., 75, of Plainville, MA, formerly of Highland, NY and Harwich, MA, died on Tuesday, August 20, 2019, at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, RI after an accidental fall.  He married Angela "Angel" (Franciamore) on September 13, 1964. They treasured their 54 years, having many adventures together and enjoying their family and friends.
He was born in Poughkeepsie, New York on January 15, 1944. Richard was raised and educated in Highland, NY, and was a graduate of Highland High School, Class of 1963.
He was a proud veteran of the United States Army.
Active in many community organizations, he served as a treasurer for the Highland Little League, the Highland Lions Club, and was an elected member of the Highland School Board.
Richard held numerous managerial positions with IBM for more than thirty years and owned Portasoft Water Conditioning for twenty-eight years.  Following his retirement from IBM he owned and operated numerous construction companies in both New York and Massachusetts.
He was predeceased by his parents Edward and Catrynia (Columbe) McCarthy, his brother William McCarthy, and his daughter-in-law Elizabeth "Betzi" McCarthy.
In addition to his wife, he leaves his son: Richard McCarthy, Jr., wife Kimberly and their children Adeline and Matthew, of North Attleboro; and his daughter: Marlene Conklin, her husband, Shane and their children Andrew and William, of Gardiner, New York. He also leaves many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
A Celebration of His Life and a Service of Remembrance will be held at a time to be announced.
