Richard E. Dick Marcotte, 81, of Clifton Street, Attleboro, died on Thursday, June 9, 2011 at the Life Care Center of Attleboro. He was the husband of Cynthia A. (Burns) Marcotte to whom he was married on January 14, 1994. He was the husband of the late Mona (Church) Marcotte. Born in New York City, New York on December 16, 1929, he was a son of the late Elmer V. and Albina (St. Aubin) Marcotte. He was raised and educated in Taunton where he was a graduate of Taunton High School. Mr. Marcotte earned his Bachelors degree from the Rhode Island School of Design. He enlisted in the United States Air Force on January 10, 1951 and served proudly until his honorable discharge on January 9, 1955. Having served during the Korean War, Mr. Marcotte was the recipient of the Korean Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the United Nations Service Medal and received one Bronze Service Star. He was a member and Past Commander of the Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 115 in Attleboro. Mr. Marcotte was employed as an optical engineer for numerous optical companies including Hilsinger Company and World Wide Optical. A resident of Attleboro for more than 50 years, he previously resided in his hometown of Taunton. Mr. Marcotte was a longtime member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge 1014 in Attleboro. He served as Past Chairman of the Little Rhody Chapter of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers. As the organizations Education Chairman, Mr. Marcotte organized and taught machine shop trigonometry and progressive tool and die design. Mr. Marcotte was the recipient of the Presidents Award in 2001 as the Manufacturing Engineer of the Year. Photography was an avocation that included capturing lifelong memories at weddings and special occasions and capturing product photos. He organized the first Sport Judo club in the greater Attleboro area and taught the sport for many years at the Attleboro YMCA. He was a fourth degree black belt and Past Chairman of the New England Judo Association. Many of his students competed beyond local competition and participated on the regional and national levels. In addition to his wife of 17 years, he leaves four children: Jeffrey Marcotte of Burlington, Vermont; Kristin Marcotte of Greenville, Rhode Island; Matthew Marcotte of Rehoboth and Eric Lund of North Attleboro; six grandchildren: Andrea and Heidi Marcotte both of Burlington, Vermont; Tristan and Matthew Marcotte both of Rehoboth and Adrian and Tristan Lund both of North Attleboro; two sisters: Elaine Wyman of Attleboro and Jeanette LaValley of Raynham; two brothers: William Marcotte of Leola, Pennsylvania and Edward Marcotte of Seekonk; several nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear friends. He was the brother of the late Shirley Mortens. Ritual services conducted by both the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge 1014 and the Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 115 will be held during visitation. Following funeral services and prior to the cemetery services an invitation will be extended to join the family for a time of continued fellowship and refreshments at the Good News Bible Chapel, West Street, Attleboro. Childrens room available during visitation and the funeral service. Committal services with military honors will be held on Tuesday, June 14, 2011 at 2:30 PM at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne with Mr. Steve DuPlessie officiating. Burial will follow.
