Richard "Dick" Leo McGunagle, 72, of North Attleboro, MA, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 28, 2017 at his home. He was the beloved husband of Carolyn Louise (Adams) McGunagle, to whom he was married on August 6, 1966. Born on January 18, 1945 in Quincy, MA, he was the son of the late William A. McGunagle, Sr., and the late Loretta M. (Barriault) McGunagle.Dick proudly and honorably served our country for more than twenty-two years as a Sergeant, Combat Engineer, and United Supply Specialist in the United States Army and the Army National Guard, including tours of duty in Vietnam, Southwest Asia, and Germany, and as a Civilian employee. For his military service, he was awarded the Campaign Medal; Vietnam Service Medal; Southwest Asia Service Medal with three Bronze Service Stars; Humanitarian Service Medal; Army Service Ribbon; Overseas Service Ribbon, 2d Award; Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation with Palm; Kuwait Liberation Medal; Combat Infantryman Badge; Army National Guard Recruiter Badge; Army Retired Lapel Button; Expert Badge M16 Rifle; Marksmanship Badge, .45 Caliber Pistol; National Service Medal; Good Conduct Medal, 2d Award; Meritorious Service Medal; Army Commendation Medal, 2d Award; Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon; Valorous Unit Award; Meritorious Unit Commendation; Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal; and the National Defense Service Medal, 2d Award.Between his tours of service in the Army, Dick enjoyed working as a Truck Driver, retiring in 2000A resident of North Attleboro since 1991, where he attended St. Mark's Church, he previously lived in Mansfield, MA.Dick was a man with many diverse interests. First and foremost, he cherished spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He had a strong love for his country, for our flag, and for those who served. He was proud of his participation in the North Attleboro VFW and with other Veterans' groups. Dick closely followed politics and was an ardent supporter of President Trump. He enjoyed country music, loved Coca-Cola, and appreciated and had a loving but sarcastic sense of humor. Dick had a special place in his heart for his faithful pug, "Stanley", and for his pet cats.In addition to his wife, Carolyn, he is survived by his loving children: Wendy M. Feierstein of North Attleboro, MA; and John Richard McGunagle and his wife, Denise C. (Dauphinee) McGunagle, of Uxbridge, MA. He was the adoring grandfather of Philip J. West and his companion, Mariah S. Parish-McFarland, of North Attleboro, MA; and Matthew J. West of North Attleboro, MA. Dick was the brother of Judith Brilhante of Sebring, FL, and was predeceased by his siblings: William A. McGunagle, Jr., Gerald "Jerry" McGunagle, George McGunagle, and Dennis McGunagle.
