Richard Alexander Klein, Jr.

November 29, 1922 — October 4, 2015

Richard (Dick) Alexander Klein, Jr., 92, of Chatham, MA passed away on Sunday, October 4, 2015. He was predeceased by his wife, Bette (Chesley) Klein, and is survived by his three children and their spouses: Dianne Freed and Ken of Rehoboth, MA; Rick Klein and Donna of North Conway, NH; and Fred Klein and Denise of Holliston, MA. He has seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He was a parishioner of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Chatham. Dick was born in Newton, MA on November 29, 1922. He served as a naval aviator in the Pacific during World War II as a Lieutenant JG piloting a Grumman Hellcat Fighter from the escort carrier USS Sangamon. After his military service he had a very successful business career as a partner in Richard A. Klein Inc. of Norwood, MA, manufacturers of advertising displays. During this time Dick and his family lived in Port Chester, NY. Dick and Bette retired to Cape Cod forty years ago and enjoyed many active and adventurous years together. They traveled numerous times to Europe, the Middle East, and the Caribbean. At home, many summer days were spent sailing aboard their catboat Sandscratcher on Pleasant Bay and beyond, to Nantucket Sound. Their family homestead was a great gathering place and all have fond memories of adventures together through the years. Dick was a witty and intelligent man who had striking blue eyes that drew much attention. He was a wonderful and generous husband, father, and grandfather. He will be missed. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Habitat for Cats, PO Box 79571, North Dartmouth, MA, as cats were always a constant companion to both Dick and Bette. Visitation has been respectfully omitted. To send the family a written expression of sympathy, please visit an online guestbook at www.dyer-lakefuneralhome.com . Arrangements are under the direction of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro. (508) 695-0200.
