Richard Garnham, 71, of North Attleboro, MA passed away on Saturday, February 25, 2023, at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro, MA surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Croydon, England on June 14, 1951, he was the son of the late Norman Alec Garnham and the late Grace (Hodson) Garnham.
Richard and his family immigrated to the United States in 1967 when he was 16 years old. His parents made their family home in Newport, RI where he was raised. He was a graduate of Rogers High School in Newport, RI, Class of 1971. He spent most of his working career as a truck driver for Cumberland Farms out of Norwood, MA and later Gulf Oil in Providence, RI once acquired by Cumberland Farms.Known to be a fan of NASCAR, it was never a surprise to hear he would be tuning in to the races. Richard was also a New England sports fan, especially when it came to football and hockey, more specifically the Bruins.
Not much of an athletic man himself, he stayed active by appreciating the nature that surrounded him. He would bring his children hiking often, enjoying the outdoors and the fresh air. He had a special appreciation for the scenery, the mountains, and the ocean provided.
Recently, his favorite past time was to cruise around in his recently acquired toy, a gray Dodge Charger. His favorite passenger was his sweet Lhasa Apso, Teddy. They shared an unconditional love and were inseparable. They spent many days driving around Ocean Drive in Newport. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his children. It became even more special when he became a Pop and was blessed with his three grandchildren.
He leaves behind his daughter: Dawn Lee Huffman, and her husband, Neal, of Warrenton, Virginia and his son: Brian Garnham, and his wife, Farrah, of Cumberland, RI; his grandchildren Nicholas Huffman of Warrenton, VA and Vivienne Garnham and Fiona Garnham of Cumberland, RI; his brother Ian Garnham of Pensacola, FL and the late Neil Garnham.
All services will be private.
