Richard A. Durot, 79, of Bristol, RI, peacefully passed away on May 27, 2016 in Warren, RI. He was the beloved husband of the late Joan Reed.Born on June 7, 1936 in Newton, MA, he was the son of the late Marcel Durot and Eva (Berard) Durot.Richard was a graduate of St. Sebastian's School, Class of 1954, and attended Georgetown University, but left after his freshman year to be closer to home to help his mother care for his father who was ill. He graduated from the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA in 1958, and then from Officer's Candidate School in Newport, RI. He proudly and honorably served as a Lieutenant in the United States Navy for three years.Richard was a stockbroker in Boston and commuted from Bristol, RI to Beacon Hill for over twenty-five years. Besides his family and his many horses, dogs, and cats, Richard enjoyed sailing, politics, and his family visits to Europe.He is survived by his four sons: Guy Durot and his wife, Tori, of West Palm Beach, FL; Jonathan Durot of Boston, MA; Chris Durot and his wife, Morgan, of Bristol, RI; and David Durot and his wife, Kathy, of Bristol, RI; and three step-children: John Reed, Bill Reed, and Chrissie Reed. He is survived by four grandchildren and five step-grandchildren; his older brother, Marcel Durot and his wife, Charlotte, of Chicago, IL; and his former wife, Sonia Lowis Wilson of Newport, RI.Richard was the loving father of the late Richard Durot.Funeral services will be private.Memorial donations may be made to the Bristol Animal Shelter, 10 Minturn Farm Road, Bristol, RI 02809.For additional information or to send the family a written expression of sympathy, please visit an on-line guest book at www.dyer-lakefuneralhome.com .
