Richard Dias

Richard Dias, 78, of South Main Street, Attleboro, passed away on July 9, 2012 at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro following a short illness. He was the husband of Peddy L. (Cotten) Dias. Born on Trenton Street in the Fox Point neighborhood of Providence, Rhode Island on November 13, 1933, he was a son of the late William Dias, Sr. and Lydia (Yerid) Dias. In 1946, he moved to East Providence, Rhode Island where he was raised and educated and was a 1952 graduate of East Providence High School. He resided in East Providence until moving to Attleboro in 1994. In earlier years he worked with his father-in-law at Perry's Mobil Station located next to the Providence Produce Market. He was also employed as a truck driver for Arrow Transportation Company and Ocean State News. He was a former proud member of the Teamsters' Local 251 and the retiree's chapter. Richard loved animals especially horses, dogs and cats. He also enjoyed spending time creating memories with his family, cooking and traveling. He attended Murray Unitarian Universalist Church in Attleboro. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters: Gina Dias of Pawtucket; Debra Dyer-Penedo of East Providence, RI; Paula McLaughlin of Whitman; a son: Richard Dias of Concord, NH; two stepsons: Alfred Kholi of Attleboro and David Kholi of Attleboro; three grandchildren; two brothers: William Dias and Edward Dias both of East Providence and several nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visitation on Wednesday, July 11, 2012 from 5:00 - 8:00 PM in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home - the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, mile on left), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro. For those in need of local transportation to visitation simply call the funeral home at (508) 695-0200 to make an advance reservation for such gratis service. Family and friends are cordially invited to attend the funeral service Thursday, July 12, 2012 at 10:00 in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home - the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, mile on left), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro with the Rev. Sandra D. Fitz-Henry, Pastor of Murray Unitarian Universalist Church, North Main Street, Attleboro, officiating.. Burial will follow in Oak Knoll Cemetery, Rehoboth. Children's room available during visitation and the funeral service. Please omit flowers. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Mr. Dias' name may be sent to the Attleboro Friends of Cats, Inc.
