Ret. Captain Neil Scott Gagne, A.F.D.

April 11, 1961 — January 25, 2019

Ret. Captain Neil Scott Gagne, A.F.D., 57, of North Attleboro. MA, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 25, 2019 at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro, MA. He was the beloved husband of Barbara A. (Baker) Gagne, to whom he was married on October 11, 1991.
Born on April 11, 1961 in Attleboro, he was the son of the late Ernest Albert Gagne and the late Mildred E. (Kiff) Gagne.
Neil was a graduate of Attleboro High School, Class of 1979, and joined the Army National Guard that same year. He then attended Flight School at Fort Rucker, Alabama and became a Warrant Officer helicopter pilot for the Army National Guard in 1985. He became a Firefighter for the City of Attleboro in 1982, was promoted to Captain of the Attleboro Fire Department in 1987 and retired in 2017.  Neil received his Associate Degree from Community College of Rhode Island in 1991 and became a licensed Dental Hygienist that year.
A resident of North Attleboro since 1993, he previously lived in Attleboro.
He was a longtime member of First Congregational; "Oldtown" Church in North Attleboro.
A kind, caring and welcoming man with a warm smile and a heart of gold, he was a true friend to everyone, committed to helping others, and devoted to his brotherhood of the Attleboro Fire Department. Neil enjoyed the simple pleasures in life.  He was an ardent fan of New England sports: The Red Sox; Patriots, especially of Tom Brady; and Bruins. He loved to attend his children's sporting events. He never missed a match, whether it was Ryan's baseball games or Rene's track meets. Because of his love for family and sports, his favorite vacation was a trip to Cooperstown Dreams Park in 2008. Neil delighted in following Bruce Springsteen & The E Street band for over forty years. Although he would never admit to it, he held a special place in his heart for his family's cats.  More than anything though, Neil loved and was deeply committed to his cherished family.
In addition to his wife, Barbara, he leaves his loving children: Ryan Scott Gagne and Rene Clare Gagne, both of North Attleboro, MA. He was the dear brother of Brian Paul Gagne and his companion, Nita Wiechel, of Port St. Lucie, FL; and Keith Alan Gagne of Hopedale, MA.  He was the brother of the late Dana Roy Gagne and the uncle of the late Alyssa Leigh Gagne.  Neil leaves many aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, dear friends, and his Brotherhood of the Attleboro Fire Department.
