Ret. Sgt. Major Wayne F. Engler, U.S.M.C. Decorated Veteran Ret. Sgt. Major Wayne F. Engler, 80, of Sargent Circle, Attleboro, died on Friday, October 31, 2014 at the Morgan Healthcare Center in Johnston, Rhode Island. He was the beloved husband of Cecilia H. (Dabrowski) Engler. Born in Brockton, MA on February 28, 1934, he was the son of the late Virginia (Engler) McGrane. He was raised and educated in Mansfield where he was a 1952 graduate of Mansfield High School. Mr. Engler entered the United States Marine Corps on July 24, 1952 and proudly served his country for more than 28 years prior to his discharge on July 31, 1980 achieving the rank of Sergeant Major. He was awarded numerous decorations, medals, badges, citations and campaign ribbons including the Bronze Star Medal with Combat Distinguishing Device "V", Air Medal with four strikes, Combat Action Ribbon, Presidential Unit Citation three times, Navy Unit Commendation three times, Meritorious Unit Commendation four times, the Army Forces Expeditionary Medal and the Navy Occupation Medal. Following his military retirement, Mr. Engler was employed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts at the Paul A. Dever School in Taunton as the Chief of Security. He was a resident of the City of Attleboro for the past 34 years and was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church in Attleboro. Following his pride for military service, Mr. Engler was a member of the Attleboro American Legion Post #312 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Gilbert Perry Post 115 in Attleboro. He was a member of the Attleboro Moose Lodge #463. Among his many interests and pastimes, golf was of most importance. He also enjoyed all types of dancing and was an ardent New England Patriots fan. However, his most treasured times were those spent among his family, particularly his cherished grandchildren, and his countless friends creating lifelong memories to remember. In addition to his wife, he leaves four sons: Michael J. Engler and his wife, Marie, of Port St. Lucie, Florida; Thomas J. Engler and his wife, Darlene, of Arundel, Maine; Robert J. Engler and his wife, Alena, of Foxboro and John J. Engler and his wife, Andrea, of North Attleboro; 11 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; his 5-year old canine companion, "Comet"; extended family members and many dear friends. Inurnment will be private in the Massachusetts National Cemetery Columbarium, Bourne. Children's room is available during the visitation and the funeral service.
