Rena M. Rushlow

Rena M. (Hamel) Rushlow, 96, of South Street, Plainville; an Attleboro native; passed away peacefully on Friday, February 10, 2012 at the Epoch Senior Healthcare Center of Norton following a brief illness. She was the beloved wife of the late David A. Rushlow to whom she was married on May 2, 1942 and who died on April 18, 2003. Born in Attleboro, Massachusetts on January 15, 1916, she was the devoted daughter of the late Eugene and Addie (Morin) Hamel. Rena was raised and educated in Attleboro where she graduated from Attleboro High School and Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School in Providence. She was later employed by the former Bliss Brothers Company where she met her future husband, David, with whom she celebrated sixty-one years. Rena was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church where she was an active member of the Cub Scout program and was a volunteer CCD teacher while living in Attleboro. Upon moving to Plainville almost 50 years ago, Rena became a communicant of St. Martha Roman Catholic Parish and was an altar volunteer. Rena devoted her life to her family and treasured the times spent creating lifelong memories to be forever cherished. Her family was the focal point of her life. Her world evolved around her two children, three granddaughters, four great grandchildren and extended family of nieces and nephews. She will be lovingly remembered as a woman of style, grace and elegance. She leaves two children: Irene D. Bartley and her husband, John J. Bartley, of Norton and David E. Rushlow and his wife, Beth P. (Barrows) Rushlow, of Norton; three granddaughters: Lynda A. Bartley of Norton; Jeanne C. Karcis and her husband, Michael Karcis, of Norton and Diane L. Taylor and her husband, Rick Taylor, of Rehoboth; four great grandchildren: Olivia M. Karcis and Paul M. Karcis both of Norton and William D. Taylor and Luke H. Taylor both of Rehoboth and several nieces, nephews and extended family members. She was the sister of the late Raymond Hamel, Harvey Hamel and Irene Hamel. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visitation on Wednesday, February 15, 2012 from 9:00 10:00 AM in the Memorial Chapel of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, mile on the left) Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to Celebrate Her Life and attend the funeral on Wednesday, February 15, 2012 immediately following visitation at 10:00 AM from the Memorial Chapel of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, mile on the left) Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM at St. Martha Roman Catholic Church, 227 South Street, Plainville. Burial will follow in St. Johns Cemetery, Attleboro. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Mrs. Rushlows name may be made to Religious of Jesus and Mary, 92 School Street, Plainville, MA 02762. The Rushlow family gratefully acknowledges the loving and gentle care Rena received from the caring staff at the Epoch Senior Health Care of Norton during her time at the facility.
