Raymond Leslie Shearer, 80, of Brook Haven Drive, Attleboro, died on Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at the New England Sinai Hospital in Stoughton. He was the husband of Marilyn J. (Littlefield) Shearer to whom he was married on January 30, 1972. Born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on December 23, 1931, he was a son of the late William E. and Alma O. (Tabor) Shearer. He was a 1950 graduate of Central High School in Little Rock, Arkansas and earned his Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge where he was a fraternity brother and later attended Northeastern University. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army having served during the Korean War. Mr. Shearer was employed as a mechanical engineer at the Raytheon Company in Portsmouth, Rhode Island for many years prior to his retirement in 1995. Following his retirement, he was employed as a courier for Clinical Science Lab in Mansfield. Many years ago, Mr. Shearer was an employee of Federal Products in Providence, Rhode Island. In his youth he was an award-winning model airplane maker. A faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Attleboro, Mr. Shearer served as a collector for more than 18 years. A resident of the City of Attleboro since 1976, he formerly resided in Bryant, Arkansas and Scituate. His favorite pastimes included sailing and time spent at the beach, fishing in fresh and salt water, helping his wife in the garden and was a member of the First Volunteer Group at the Attleboro Animal Shelter and was a volunteer with the Attleboro Friends of Cats. He held his private pilots license and was an antique car aficionado. In addition to his wife of 39 years, he leaves six children: Jeffrey H. Rowell of Carver; Janellen Pinkos of Attleboro; Dana Lloyd Rowell of Waymart, Pennsylvania; Patricia L. Rowell of Attleboro; Paige A. McSween and her husband, Robert J. McSween, of Attleboro and Karen F. Rowell of New Bedford; three grandchildren; two great grandchildren; a sister: Betty Ball of Little Rock, Arkansas and several extended family members and dear friends. Visitation has been respectfully omitted. Family and friends are cordially invited to attend a Memorial Service Celebrating His Life on Friday, December 16, 2011 at 11:00 AM at the First Baptist Church, 118 South Main Street, Attleboro. Burial will be private. Following church services an invitation will be extended to join the family for a time of continued fellowship and refreshments in the fellowship hall of the church.
