Raymond E. King, 90, of North Attleboro, MA passed away peacefully of a broken heart on Friday, November 12, 2021, at the HopeHealth Hulitar Hospice Inpatient Center in Providence, RI following a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of the late Lorraine I. (LaBelle) King who died on August 30, 2021, and to whom he was married for sixty-eight years.
Born in Attleboro, MA on May 24, 1931, he was a son of the late Raymond N. King and the late Charlotte E. (Moran) King. He was a 1950 graduate of Galileo High School in San Francisco, California.
Mr. King was a very patriotic man and proud veteran. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served honorably during the Korean War era. Mr. King was the recipient of the Korean War Commemorative Service Award from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and was recognized with the Frederick F. Holmes Award.
He held high esteem for the North Attleboro Veterans Council in addition to actively participating with the American Legion Post #49, North Attleboro and served on the North Attleboro Conservation Commission.
Mr. King was a valued community activists and was a member of numerous civic and veteran's organizations as well as being the backbone of many projects and memorials throughout the years.
He contributed his time and creative wisdom to the North Attleboro World War I, World War II and Korean memorials.
Mr. King was employed by the former Gorham Silver Company in Providence, RI for 30 years before becoming the director of operations at the Madonna Manor in North Attleboro. He often recognized the many veterans who resided at Madonna Manor.
He had been a North Attleboro resident since 1958. A man of strong religious beliefs, he was a communicant of the Transfiguration of the Lord Parish - St. Mary, North Attleboro.
He will be lovingly remembered for the memories he and his family created at their mountainside home in Groton, New Hampshire, his love for square dancing with his wife, and being independent until the very end.
He recently recalled the fun times he and his wife shared during the winter in Jensen Beach, Florida with Raymond's service buddies. None of the family can forget that summer when Ray and Lorraine took the entire young family in an old van for a drive to California.
He leaves his daughter: Julie A. King-Deininger and her husband, Kenneth Deininger, of North Attleboro, MA; his daughter-in-law: Cynthia E. (Hammond) King of Cumberland, RI, wife of Raymond's late son, Gary M. King, who died on July 15, 2014, and many grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Family and friends are cordially invited to attend a Visitation with Veterans Honors on Friday, November 19, 2021, from 8:00 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro, MA.
The funeral cortege will begin at 9:30 a.m. and proceed to the Transfiguration of the Lord Parish - St. Mary, 14 Park Street, North Attleboro, MA for a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial.
Burial with military honors will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro, MA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Raymond's name may be made to the North Attleboro Department of Veteran Services, 43 South Washington Street, North Attleboro, MA 02760 to assist local veterans during the holiday seasons.
