Raymond "Ray" Joseph Gagnon, 94, of Attleboro, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 1, 2018 at Life Care Center of Attleboro in Attleboro, MA. He was the loving and beloved husband of Eileen T. (Johnson) Gagnon, to whom he was married on May 4, 1946, and who died on October 21, 2013. Born on January 29, 1924 in Northbridge, MA, he was the son of the late Godfroid and Yvonne (Aussant) Gagnon. Raised and educated in Attleboro, he was a graduate of Attleboro High School, Class of 1942, and later attended Fitchburg State University. Ray proudly and honorably served our country in the United States Navy during World War II. A lifelong resident of Attleboro, he lived in Plainville, MA for eleven years before returning to Attleboro, where he was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church. Ray enjoyed his work as a Culinary Teacher at Attleboro High School for many years before retiring in 1989. From 1949 until 1973, he was the owner of the former Cottage Bakery on South Main Street in Attleboro, started by his late father. A true sports enthusiast, he was an avid tennis player who also enjoyed cooking, baking, and playing cards. He especially loved spending time with his family. Ray was the beloved father of the late Denise E. Bruty; Christine M. Murphy and her husband, David R. Murphy, of North Attleboro, MA; Paula J. Bowler and her husband, Kevin J. Bowler, of Mashpee, MA; and Neil R. Gagnon and his wife, Amy (MacDonald) Gagnon, of West River, MD. He was the proud and adoring grandfather of Jennifer Kubinski, Matthew Murphy, Kevin Murphy, Melissa Bruty, Bridget Bowler Perry, Kate Bowler Moore, Patrick Gagnon, and Katie Gagnon, and leaves eleven treasured great-grandchildren. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to honor and remember Ray at a Memorial Visitation with Veteran's Honors on Friday, February 16, 2018 from 9:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home - the historic Obed Robinson House - 161 Commonwealth Avenue, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial with full Military Honors at 11:00 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church, 133 North Main Street (Route 152), Attleboro, MA. A Children's Room is available during the visitation. Private Graveside services will be held on Friday, May 4, 2018 in St. Stephen's Cemetery, at which time Ray will be laid to rest alongside his dear late wife, Eileen, on their Seventy-second wedding anniversary.
