Raymond "Ray" Asahel Burgess, 81, of North Attleboro, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at Golden Living Center of Attleboro. He was the beloved husband of Muriel A. (Sherry) Burgess, to whom he was wed on January 15, 1955.Born on April 12, 1934 in Pawtucket, RI, he was the son of the late Asahel Henry Burgess and the late Mildred I. (Geraghty) Burgess. Ray was a resident of North Attleboro for the past fifty-four years, where he and his wife raised their family. He worked as a Security Guard at Engelhard Industries in Plainville, MA, and at Vennerbeck Stern-Leach in Lincoln, RI, before retiring in 1999.Ray's life was filled with many interests. He enjoyed flying kites, CB radios, puttering around his house, walks with his dog, "Benji", inflatable Christmas displays, working on cars when he was a younger man, and travel, especially to Nashville, Las Vegas, and to Hawaii, where he and Muriel celebrated their twenty-fifth wedding anniversary. More than anything else, though, Ray loved time spent with the family he held so dear.In addition to his wife, Muriel, he is survived by six beloved children: Nancy G. (Burgess) Matteson and her husband, Ronald M. Matteson, of Franklin, MA; Thomas M. Burgess and his wife, Rosalie-Mary Burgess, of Attleboro, MA; Richard R. Burgess and his wife, Patricia A. Burgess, of Attleboro Falls, MA; Stephen J. Burgess and his companion, Ivanna D'Intino, of Attleboro, MA; Kathleen M. (Burgess) Wegiel and her husband, John F. Wegiel, of Plainville, MA; and David J. Burgess and his wife, Joan Burgess, of North Attleboro, MA. He leaves twelve treasured grandchildren; seven cherished great-grandchildren; and one nephew, Scott Burgess.Ray was the brother of the late Henry Bernard Burgess.
