Raymond W. Babbitt, 93, of St. Laurent Parkway, Seekonk, died on Thursday, June 28, 2012 at the Philip Hulitar Inpatient Hospice Facility in Providence, Rhode Island. He was the husband of Margery F. (Fox) Babbitt to whom he was married on October 10, 1980. Born in Fairhaven, Massachusetts on June 13, 1919, he was a son of the late Raymond and Fannie (Woodward) Babbitt. He was raised and educated in his native community of Fairhaven and later graduated from the New Bedford Technical Institute. Mr. Babbitt proudly served his country during the World War II era with the United States Navy. He was employed as a mechanical engineer for Mossberg Steel in Cumberland, Rhode Island for more than 20 years prior to his retirement. A resident of Seekonk since his marriage in 1980, Mr. Babbitt previously resided in Rehoboth and Cumberland, Rhode Island. He was a former member of the Masonic order and was a member of the Massachusetts Audubon Society. He was an avid photographer who won several amateur photography contests. In addition, Mr. Babbitt was a devoted Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots fan and enjoyed playing golf and listening to music. He leaves his wife of almost 32 years and three children: Carol Gobin of Lyman, New Hampshire; Ronald Babbitt of Missoula, Montana and Dr. Lynn Babbitt, D.V.M. of Medford, Oregon; three stepchildren: Donna Allenson of Plymouth; Thomas C. Sagar of Glocester, Rhode Island and Gary S. Sagar of Seekonk; nine grandchildren; five great grandchildren and several extended family members. He was the brother of the late Leroy Babbitt. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visitation with Veteran's Honors on Tuesday, July 3, 2012 from 9:00 - 11:00 AM in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home - the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, mile on left), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro. A funeral service with Veteran's Honors will immediately follow visitation on Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at 11:00 AM in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home - the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, mile on left), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro with the Rev. Joy Utter, Pastor of the Seekonk Congregational Church, officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Seekonk Cemetery, Seekonk. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Mr. Babbitt's name may be made to the Seekonk Congregational Church, 600 Fall River Avenue, Seekonk, MA 02771.
