Ramubhai Vanmalibhai Patel, 90, of Mansfield, MA, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 21, 2024, at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital - Needham, MA surrounded by loved ones. He was the beloved husband of Laxmi Patel, whom he was happily married to for over 72 years.
Born on February 11, 1933, in the small village of Vihan in Gujarat, India, he was the son of the late Vanmalibhai Patel and the late Ratanben Patel.
Ramubahai arrived in London in 1953 with very limited resources to pursue his passion and obtain a Masters degree in electrical engineering from Hendon College. He then made the ambitious and pivotal decision to embark upon an arduous and at times risky journey with his wife and 3 young children first to Canada via ocean liner in 1964, and then settling in the Boston area in 1968.
Ramubhai was a hardworking man who dedicated more than twenty-five years as an Electrical Engineer for the former Foxboro Company, as well as other engineering firms. He never truly retired, remaining active throughout his lifetime with an uncanny knack for figures and detail. His various endeavors with family included running The Lighthouse Motel in Watertown, NY and subsequently the former Bates Opera House in Attleboro, MA.
He was a supportive and caring father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, always ready with a joke to help lighten the mood when someone felt dejected or upset. Drawing on his engineering background, Ramubhai was truly a "fix everything" kind of man whether it came to brightening one's spirits, fixing circuit boards, or tinkering with a car that needed some TLC. Through his fortitude with limited resources at a young age he set in motion a cascade of events that has affected so many generations for the better.
In addition to his wife, Ramubhai is survived by his three children: Sumitra Patel and her husband, Maganbhai Patel, of Attleboro, MA; Mahesh Patel, MD of San Jose, CA; and Sheila Patel of Mansfield, MA. He was the adoring grandfather of Sandhya Patel, MD and Joshua Patel. He was the proud great-grandfather of Aarav Work, Vivek Work, Avinash Work, Adriana Patel, and Lucas Patel. He was the brother of the late Thakorbhai Patel, and late sisters, Santaben Patel and Jelliben Patel. Ramubhai leaves his extended family and many dear friends both near and far.
