R. Norman Hamel, 72, of Attleboro, MA, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at Sacred Heart Nursing Home in New Bedford. He was the beloved life partner of Raymond R. Dexter of Attleboro, MA.Born on June 3, 1945 in Rochester, NH, he was the son of the late Amede and Flora (Bascan) Hamel.A graduate of Dover High School, he enrolled in the Brotherhood of Our Lady of La Salette for six years. After leaving the Order, he proudly worked as a Patient Care Assistant in the Nursing Department of Sturdy Memorial Hospital for thirty eight years before retiring due to his health. A man of strong Christian faith and dedication to the Blessed Mother, he was kind and caring and gave to others. He enjoyed the simple things in life such as eating at Bliss Brothers Dairy, and visiting Maine and Florida. He was an avid Bingo player at the former St. Joseph's Church, Bishop Feehan, the Attleboro Elks, and was a weekly player at St. Mary's Church in Norton, MA.Norman had a special place in his heart for his faithful feline companion, "Molly". His deceased cats, "Coy" and "Minn", will be joining him in Heaven. In addition to his life partner, he leaves a cousin, Cecile Fecteau of Maine, and many loving and dear friends from California, Massachusetts, and Florida.Friends are invited to remember Norman for a Celebration of his life on Monday, September 25, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, 647 North Main Street, Attleboro, MA. Burial services will be privately held in St. John's Cemetery, Attleboro, MA, where he will be laid to rest with late dear mother.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Norman to the Northbridge Association of Churches Food Pantry, c/o Senior Center, 20 Highland Street, Whitinsville, MA 01588.A very special thank you to Dr. Steven A.
