Dr. Pranjivan Velji Popat, PhD, 85, of Deanville Road, Attleboro, died on Monday, November 29, 2010 at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. He was the longtime husband of Triveni (Chhabedia) Popat to whom he was married in 1953. Born in Gariadhar, India on December 22, 1924, Dr. Popat was the son of the late Velji Virji Popat and Monghiben Velji (Sedani) Popat. He was raised and educated in India before immigrating to the United States to further his education. He received multiple post graduate degrees from both Texas A&M University and the University of Texas at Austin. He settled in Attleboro in 1965 and has remained a resident in the community. Dr. Popat was a self-employed electrochemical engineer during his career prior to his retirement. He was a lifelong devotee of the Vedanta Centers in both Boston and Providence, Rhode Island. In addition to his wife of 57 years, he leaves behind one daughter: Prema Popat of Franklin; two sons: Ashok Popat of Menlo Park, California and Pradeep Popat of Arlington, Virginia; two grandchildren: Aarthi Popat and Aashka Popat, both of Menlo Park, California; a brother: Laxmidas Popat of Sedona, Arizona; and a sister: Savita Ganatra of Islin, New Jersey. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend a ritual Hindu service on Friday, December 3, 2010 from 12:00 ? 2:00 PM in the ?Memorial Chapel? of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, mile on left), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro. Following ritual services, cremation will follow for immediate family only at North Purchase Crematory, Attleboro. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend a Memorial Service in honor of Dr. Popat?s life on Saturday, December 18, 2010 at 11:00 AM at the Vedanta Center of Providence, 227 Angell Street, Providence, Rhode Island.
