Phyllis Louisa (Martenson) Johnson, 84, of Norton, peacefully passed away on Sunday, August 28, 2016 at Wingate of Norton in Norton, MA. She was the beloved wife of the late George Eldon Holteen Johnson, to whom she was married on July 9, 1955.Born on January 7, 1932 in Boston, MA, she was the daughter of the late Sven Martenson and the late Anna (Johnson) Martenson. Phyllis lived in Dorchester until she was nine years old, and then moved with her family to Hanson, MA.Phyllis was a graduate of Whitman High School, Class of 1949, and Bridgewater State Teachers College, Class of 1953. She worked as a School Teacher from 1953 through 1956 in the Brockton School Department, and from 1956 through 1960 in the Mesa, Arizona School Department.A resident of Norton for the last fifty years, Phyllis was a member of Evangelical Covenant Church in Attleboro, MA, where she enjoyed participation in the Women's Church Bible Study, church fairs, and women's groups. She loved reading mystery novels, baking, knitting, and sewing, and taking care of her flower garden. Phyllis truly valued time spent with her family.She is survived by her cherished daughter, Kristina L. (Johnson) Lapinski and her husband, Robert J. Lapinski, of Norton, MA; her treasured grandson, Brett R. Lapinski of Norton, MA; and two brothers: Allan Martenson and his wife, Eleanor Martenson, of East Hampton, CT; and Russell Martenson and his wife, Jan Martenson, of Ranchos de Taos, NM. Phyllis leaves two generations of nieces and nephews and many cousins.Friends and family are cordially invited to attend a Visitation on Friday, September 2, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home - the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, ¾ mile on the left) Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro, MA.Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Service on Saturday, September 3, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Evangelical Covenant Church, 841 North Main Street, Attleboro, MA.
