Peter C. Nolin

August 3, 1946 — July 21, 2015

Peter C. Nolin, 68, of Attleboro, died on 21 July 2015 in Sturdy Memorial Hospital ICU after complications from emergency surgery and a continued decline in health. He died peacefully with loved ones by his side. Peter is the beloved life partner of Alice King, father to Autumn King of Attleboro, Amy Nolin Flood of New Jersey, Melissa Tadlock of So Attleboro, and Linda Schleicher of Norton. Louis Leduc of Attleboro, and Rob Frank, of Rhode Island, have been like sons to him. Peter was born in Dedham, Ma, on 3 August 1946, the son of the late Ernest and Olive Nolin. While his parents worked, Peter's older sister Doris Woods left school to take care of him and all he learned of lovingkindness is from Doris' gentle care. He is the older brother to two sisters, Carol Nolin Smith of North Attleboro, and Gail Nolin of Antioch, Tennessee. George Muir of North Attleboro and Roland Ouellette of Rehoboth, are like brothers to Peter, sharing a lifelong devotion to each other. Peter's early education was in Dedham until the family moved to Attleboro. Peter attended Attleboro public schools and is a 1964 graduate of Attleboro High School. Always interested in how things worked, his first job was as an auto mechanic at Pedro's Service Station in Attleboro. At the urging of a friend who saw his potential, Peter attended classes to become a teacher. After certification, Peter became an automotive technology instructor at Attleboro High School Vocational Technical, joining two other teachers in that department. While budget cuts reduced the number of instructors from three to one, and automotive repair became more sophisticated and complex with the addition of computer technology, Peter continued his education, graduating from Fitchburg College. He built a reputation among his students as a teacher that believed in them, and inspired them to excel. After over thirty years of hearing, "HEY Mr. NOLIN!" echoing in the shop as he mentored and encouraged his students, Peter Nolin became one of Attleboro High School's most beloved teachers. Peter has Automotive Service Excellence certification in all specialties, including the highest achievement of Master Technician. Peter also served as a consultant for Touch of Class Limousine Service of North Attleboro and other unique automobile businesses and dealerships across New England, working on exotic, antique, and foreign cars. While he loved fixing cars, his true love was in motorcycle repair. Peter loved riding 1975 Honda 750 4, and was restoring a vintage Harley Davidson. He was part of the DD crew on North Main Street, and was a founding member of Sanborne's Garage. Peter has been joyously driving his prized possession, a beat up old 1949 Mercury coupe complete with original Flathead engine through Attleboro, for the last fifty years. He loved learning, music (especially oldies, rock, and the Moody Blues), attended air shows, car shows, and was an avid reader. He has shared his home with rescue cats: Jasmine, Meishu, and Natasha. Peter is known for his wry wit, great laugh, and bountiful knowledge of trivia, but most of all, for his altruism. Peter Nolin leaves behind countless people he would call brother, and many who would say he was like a father to them. He deeply loved you all. Visitation has been respectfully omitted. Graveside services will be conducted privately. Friends and family are cordially invited to attend a Gathering of Remembrance for Peter on Monday, July 27, 2015 from 11:00 a.m. throughout the day until 7:00 p.m. in the Golden Antler Room of the Attleboro Lodge of Elks #1014, 887 South Main Street, Attleboro MA 02703. Please bring your remembrances, stories and anecdotes to share as we celebrate Peter's life.
