Peter William Leddy, 60, of Peters Way, North Attleboro, died on Sunday, December 4, 2011 at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro following a one-year illness. He was the husband of Mary R. (Dumont) Leddy to whom he was married on August 23, 1975. Born in Providence, Rhode Island on August 9, 1951, he was a son of Marilyn (Johnson) Leddy of Seekonk and the late Herbert E. Leddy. Raised and educated in Seekonk, Mr. Leddy was a 1969 graduate of Seekonk High School. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Education from Bridgewater State College in 1972 and later earned his Masters in Education from Bridgewater State College. He spent his entire career as an educator including the time spent as a science and geography teacher at Norton High School as well as serving as Science Coordinator for the Norton Middle and High Schools prior to his retirement in June 2011. Mr. Leddy was a member of the Massachusetts Geographical Society, and the National Science Teachers Association. He coached the Norton High School girls softball and girls volleyball teams for several years. An ardent traveler, he visited several continents in support of scientific research for Earth Watch or for personal adventure. In 2005, Mr. Leddy summitted Mount Kilimanjaro, the worlds highest free standing mountain in Eastern Africa. He was an avid cyclist, hiker, photographer, geographer and was a self-proclaimed computer geek. Mr. Leddy resided in North Attleboro for the past 29 years having previously resided in Attleboro and Rockland. He was a communicant of St. Mark Roman Catholic Church in the Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro. In addition to his wife of 36 years and his mother, he leaves two children: Matthew P. Leddy and his wife, Megan (Tracy) Leddy, of Providence, Rhode Island and Kara A. McDermott and her husband, Ryan McDermott, of Dedham; three grandchildren: Aidan, Nolan and Stella McDermott all of Dedham; a sister: Elizabeth Beth Donovan and her husband, Paul Donovan, of Parsonsfield, Maine; a brother: Paul H. Leddy and his wife, Nancy (Astorian) Leddy, of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida and several extended family members and friends. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visitation on Thursday, December 8, 2011 from 4:00 8:00 PM in the Memorial Chapel of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, mile on the left) Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, December 9, 2011 at 9:00 AM at St. Marks Roman Catholic Church, 105 Stanley Street (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, turn right onto Stanley Street in mile and travel to end of Stanley Street), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro with the Rev. Thomas A. Frechette, Pastor, officiating. There will be no funeral cortege from the funeral home prior to the commencement of church services. Burial will follow in St. Marys Cemetery, Towne Street, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro. Following cemetery services an invitation will be extended to join the family for a time of continued fellowship and refreshments at a location to be announced. Please do not send flowers.
