Paul Edward Laramée, 87, of North Attleboro, MA passed on Sunday, November 4, 2012 at Bay Pines Veterans Hospital in Florida. Born in Woonsocket, RI on February 22, 1925, he was the son of Arsene and Olida (Giguere) of Canada. He was the husband of Helen C. Laramée (Jette) of Riverside, RI. A resident of North Attleboro most of his life, he and Helen moved to Austin ,TX, Fort Bragg, NC, Wilmington, NC and then Pinellas Park, FL in 2000. A builder and contractor most of his life, he and his brothers established Laramée Brothers Construction Company after World War II and developed the Westside Avenue area of town. Later Paul worked for the Catholic Church, as a maintenance supervisor for the Madonna Manor, before returning to construction in MA, RI, TX prior to retirement. A devout Catholic, he enjoyed traveling, reading, debating current events, politics, gardening, boating, clamming, lake fishing for catfish, and deep sea fishing, which he did until his passing. As an engineer, and French interrupter for the Army, SGT Laramée was a member of the 81st Engineer Combat Battalion, 106th Infantry Division which participated in the famous Battle of the Bulge in December 1944. While two regiments of the 106th INF DIV became encircled at Schnberg, SGT Laramée and his unit pulled back under fire to form a five-day holding action on a ridge line at St. Vith, against vastly superior German forces. For this heroic stand, the 81st ENGR CBT BN was awarded the Distinguished Unit Citation for Gallantry and SGT Laramée was awarded the Bronze Star. A graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design, Paul was life member of the VFW, and served many positions within the N.A. Elks. He is survived by his son David Laramée, several nieces and nephews, 6 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and extended family members. His wife Helen, son Roger and daughter Suzanne (DeLaurier) passed previously. He was the brother of the late Raymond, Camille and Gerard Sr. Laramée. Family and friends are cordially invited to attend a Memorial Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, December 13th, 9:00 AM, at Sacred Heart Parish, 58 Church Street, North Attleboro, MA 02760.
