Paul Nazaire Laferriere

September 8, 1926 — February 26, 2013

Paul Nazaire Laferriere, 86, a longtime Attleboro resident, died on Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at the Madonna Manor Nursing Home in North Attleboro where he had been a short term resident. He was the beloved husband of the late Gertrude T. (Pelletier) Laferriere to whom he was married on May 2, 1953 and entered into eternal rest on June 26, 2003. Born in Whitinsville, Massachusetts on September 8, 1926, he was a son of the late Elzear and Alexina (Blouin) Laferriere. He was a 1944 graduate of Attleboro High School. He proudly served with the United States Navy Seabees from his enlistment on August 16, 1944 and achieved the rank of Machinist's Mate Third Class prior to his honorable discharge on May 19, 1946. Mr. Laferriere was the recipient of the World War II Victory Medal, the American Area Ribbon and the Asiatic Pacific Area Ribbon. Mr. Laferriere was a self employed barber for almost 60 years having owned and operated Paul's Barber Shop on both Pine and Hazel Streets in Attleboro. He was a former communicant of the former St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Attleboro from which he was the recipient of the Marian Medal Award from the Fall River Diocese in 1972 and currently was a communicant of St. Theresa of the Child Jesus Roman Catholic Church in South Attleboro. An active member of the community, Mr. Laferriere was a former member and served as president of the Attleboro Little League, was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks - Lodge #1014 in Attleboro for more than sixty years and was currently the oldest Past Exalted Ruler. He served as a scout leader and committee member for the Boy Scouts of America - Troop 37 in Attleboro and will be remembered by his children for being a devoted mentor not only to them but their friends as well. Mr. and Mrs. Laferriere were longtime student exchange hosts. He leaves eight children: Alice M. Bedard and her husband, Philip Bedard, of Taunton; Claire A. Boudreau and her husband, Raymond Boudreau, of Plainville; Susan J. Brunelli and her husband, William Brunelli, of Wrentham; David R. Laferriere and his former spouse, Deborah Laferriere, of Attleboro; Donald F. Laferriere and his wife, Denise Laferriere, of Rehoboth; Gerard R. Laferriere of Marlboro, MA; James E. Laferriere and his companion, Alisa, of Cumberland, Rhode Island and Richard P. Laferriere and his companion, Sue, of Attleboro; three brothers: William Laferriere of Tampa, Florida; Raymond Laferriere of Attleboro and Wilfred Laferriere of Fort Myers, Florida; a brother-in-law: the Most Rev. Donald Pelletier, Bishop of Madagascar; 12 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousin and extended family members. Mr. Laferriere was predeceased by his siblings: Anna Charlebois, Archille Laferriere and Robert Laferriere. He was the brother-in-law of the late Roger Poirier. Private visitation with Veteran's Honors will be held in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home - the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, mile on the left) Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, March 4, 2013 at 10:00 AM at St. Theresa of the Child Jesus Roman Catholic Church, Baltic Street, South Attleboro with the Rev. Jon-Paul Gallant, Principal Celebrant. Military honors will be bestowed following church services. Burial will be private in St. Stephen's Cemetery in the Dodgeville section of the City of Attleboro. Following church services an invitation will be extended to join the family for a time of continued fellowship and refreshments at a location to be announced. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Mr. Laferriere's name and honor may be made to the National Shrine of Our Lady of LaSalette to benefit the Madagascar Missions by making the checks payable to: Most Rev.
