Paul E. Doherty

Paul E. Doherty, 64, of Blackstone, MA, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 21, 2019 at St. Camillus Health Center in Whitinsville, MA, after a long-fought battle with cancer.  He was the beloved husband of the late Cynthia "Cindy" Jeanne (Poirier) Doherty, to whom he was married on August 7, 2004, and who passed away on April 16, 2017.
Born on November 26, 1954 in Everett, MA, he was the son of the late Bernard L. Doherty and the late Margaret M. (Eldridge) Doherty and was raised in Charlestown, MA.
A graduate of Malden Catholic High School, Class of 1972, he spent many years working as a telephone technician traveling throughout New England.  Paul received his Associate degree and certification in Addiction Counseling from UMass Boston. A resident of Blackstone for the past seventeen years, he previously lived in North Attleboro, MA.
A warm, kind, outgoing, and generous man, he truly enjoyed spending time with his family and providing invaluable advice to his children over the years.
He is survived by his loving children:  Lyn Marie Penney of Blackstone, MA; Terrence Edward Doherty and his wife, Darcelle Doherty, of Southbridge, MA; Caitlin Elizabeth Doherty of Quincy, MA; Elizabeth Ann Penny-Leis, her husband, Kevin R. Leis, and her partner, Sarah A. Guindon, all of Milford, MA. He was an amazing Papa to his granddaughter, Eleanor J.M. Leis. Paul leaves behind his siblings: Bernard L. Doherty Jr., and his wife, Marta, of Plymouth, MA; Marie M. Doherty of Naples, FL; and Neil R. Doherty and his wife, Kathy, of Burlington, MA. He leaves two generations of nephews and nieces, and many friends who will miss him dearly. He leaves his former spouse, Cecilia Doherty of Quincy, MA. Paul always held a special place in his heart for his faithful pets, "Daisey Mae", "Simon", and his grand-dog, "Bailey Rose".
He leaves his late wife's family: her parents, Paul Poirier of Wayland, MA, and Patricia Ann (Hamilton) Cwirka of Framingham, MA; and her siblings: Kimberly Avila and her husband, Kevin Avila, of Hudson, MA; Sharyn Piche and her husband, Guy Piche, of Houston, TX; John Poirier and his wife, Monique Poirier, of Wayland, MA; and Andrea C. Cronin and her husband, George F. Cronin, Jr., of Framingham, MA.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to honor and remember Paul by gathering for a Memorial Visitation on Saturday, March 30, 2019 from 12:00 Noon - 1:00 p.m. in the Memorial Chapel of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro, MA, immediately followed by a Funeral Service at 1:00 p.m. at Dyer-Lake Funeral Home.
A Children's Room is available during the Visitation and funeral service.
Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Paul to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
