Patricia M. (Hobbs) Metrano, 70, of Attleboro, passed away on Tuesday, March 22, 2011 after a courageous battle with cancer. Patricia was the eldest daughter of the late Gertrude Helen (Corrigan) Hobbs and the late Walter M. Hobbs. She is survived by her three loving daughters, Christina Estey of Attleboro, Lisa Cashman of Bridgewater, Paula Dort and her husband Peter of Plainville; grand-children Kirsten Mailhot and husband Alan, Lia Estey, Kiel and Adam Cashman, and Bryce and Olivia Dort; her great-granddaughter, Isabel Mailhot; her sister, H. Joan Hobbs of Plainville; and her brothers, Robert W. Hobbs and Bruce A. Hobbs of Florida, Walter (Skip) M. Hobbs Jr. of Maine, Edmund N. Hobbs of Wrentham; and several nephews, nieces, and cousins. She was also the sister of the late Harry E. Hobbs. Patricia was a 1958 graduate of King Philip High School and graduated cum laude from Bridgewater State College in 1972. She enjoyed inspiring her students in the Easton Public Schools for 30 years before retiring in 2002. To this day she remains a favorite teacher of many of her students, several of whom continued to keep in touch with her. Patricia was persistent in her effort to improve the working conditions of teachers and the education of students through her volunteer work as a member of the Easton Teachers Association, the Massachusetts Teachers Association, the National Educators Association and the Bristol County Educators Association. Patricia was a person who strived to help others in the Attleboro area and beyond. As an active member of the Second Congregational Church of Attleboro, she participated in the prayer shawl committee amongst others. She volunteered for Habitat for Humanity, the Attleboro Public Schools, the Capron Park Zoo, and the Jerry Lewis Telethon. She was a member of the South Attleboro Lions. She regularly donated to the Hebron Food Pantry and Rosies Place. Finally, Patricia was an enthusiastic member of the Attleboro Democratic Committee working to improve human rights for all. Patricia enjoyed being with her family and friends, reading, taking art classes, attending the theater and golfing. Having an adventurous spirit, she traveled to Bermuda, China, Japan, Greece, Italy, England, Ireland, Canada, South America and in many places in the U.S. She was also an animal and nature lover. Visitation has been respectfully omitted. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend a memorial service on Saturday, April 2, 2011 at 10:00 AM at the Second Congregational Church, 50 Park Street, Attleboro with the Rev. F. Vernon Wright, Pastor, officiating. Following church services an invitation will be extended to join the family for a time of continued fellowship and refreshments in Fellowship Hall of the church. A committal service will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery and Arboretum, North Attleboro. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Patricia Metranos name and honor may be made to the Capron Park Zoo, 201 County Street, Attleboro, MA 02760.
