Oswald Denecke, 100, of Franklin, and formerly of Bellingham, passed away peacefully, November 20, 2023, at his son's home in North Attleborough surrounded by family. He was the beloved husband of Juliana Denecke, who died in 1994.
Born in the Dutch East Indies, what is now Indonesia, son of the late Hermann Denecke and Nio Tan Koen. At 18, he enlisted in the Dutch Merchant Marines serving during WWII. After the war he moved to Amsterdam, Netherlands where he met his wife, they were married May 15, 1953, and started a family. In 1960, he moved his family to Boston eventually settling in Bellingham in 1965.
Mr. Denecke worked for Cummins Diesel in Dedham before retiring to Inverness, FL in 1993. In 2018, he returned to Franklin, residing in Magnolia Heights, to be closer to his family.
Oswald was a big sports fan; his favorite team was the Boston Bruins. He was an avid reader, who also enjoyed gardening and cooking. His greatest joy was seeing his grandchildren and their families.
He is survived by two sons, Edwin Denecke and his wife Debra of North Attleborough; and Frank Denecke and his wife Sherron of Hopkinton. Beloved grandfather to Jessica Saleeba of Franklin; Kristen Pelletier of Newton; Jeffrey Denecke of Saratoga Springs, NY; Brittany Denecke of Milford; Cara Leah Denecke of Stafford, VA and the late Stephen Denecke of North Attleborough. He was the loving great-grandfather to 7 children: Kaylei, Chadwick, Vivienne, Isaac, Leo, Jack and Kai.
Oswald was predeceased by his 3 brothers, all of whom were in Indonesia.
At Oswald's request he will be cremated, there will be no funeral or memorial service. A private gathering for the immediate family will be held at a later date.
