Oscar Joseph Houde, 91, of Attleboro, peacefully passed away on Sunday, August 14, 2016 at Golden Living Center in Attleboro, MA. He was the beloved husband of Florence Marie (Dubuc) Houde, to whom he was married on May 4, 1946. Born on August 24, 1924 in Pawtucket, RI, he was the son of the late Eugene Houde and the late Parmelia (Caron) Houde. Oscar proudly and honorably served our country in the United States Army, having bravely participated in the Battle of Normandy. He worked for many years as a Designer and Engraver for the former Lambert Engraving Co., Inc., having retired at age 85. He was a resident of Attleboro for the last sixty years and a member of St. Mark's Roman Catholic Church in Attleboro Falls. A man of diverse talents and interests, he was an avid golfer and bowler; enjoyed gardening and working in his yard; built his own cottage in Plymouth, MA, and took pride in having designed and engraved a tea set for Queen Elizabeth. Oscar's greatest pride and joy were his family, especially his cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his dear children: Gregory O. Houde and his wife, Bonnie S. Dowling, of Wakefield, RI; Janice M. (Houde) Glanvill and her husband, William John Glanvill of Riverside, RI; and Douglas J. Houde and his wife, Cheryl A. Houde, of North Attleboro, MA. He leaves eight grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. Oscar was the brother of Albert H. Houde of Cranston, RI, and is survived by many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. He was the brother of the late Parmelia (Houde) Laroque and the late Eugene H. Houde. Friends and family are cordially invited to attend a Visitation with Veteran's Honors on Thursday, August 18, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home - the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, ¾ mile on the left) Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro. Children's room is available during visitation and while the funeral cortege is being organized. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend the Funeral on Friday, August 19, 2016 at 8:30 a.m. from the "Memorial Chapel" of Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mark's Roman Catholic Church, 105 Stanley Street, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro, with the Rev. Thomas A. Frechette, Pastor, officiating. Private burial with military honors will follow in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
