Normand Cyril Prefontaine, 96, of Elm Terrace, North Attleboro, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday, August 4, 2012 at the Madonna Manor in North Attleboro where he had been a resident for a few days. He was the husband of the late Lucette M. (Dupuis) Prefontaine who died on February 3, 1976. Born at the family home in North Attleboro, Massachusetts on April 18, 1916, he was a son of the late Cyril J. and Emma (Beaulac) Prefontaine. Raised and educated in North Attleboro, Mr. Prefontaine remained a lifelong resident of his native community. Following his high school education, Mr. Prefontaine entered the LaSalette Seminary in Enfield, New Hampshire in 1936. He was a proud veteran of the United States Navy having served with the Seabees from August 23, 1943 until his honorable discharge on June 25, 1945. From early on, music was an important part of his life. He had more than a fifty year affiliation with the Les Gais Chanteurs, an all-male choral group. His fifty years of dedicated service included his general membership, serving as Past President, Director and Assistant Director. Mr. Prefontaine was a member of the Le Foyer Club in Pawtucket and was an ardent pool player. He served as an Auxiliary Police Crossing Guard for the Town of North Attleboro for many years. Mr. Prefontaine treasured the times spent with his friends at the Council on Aging Senior Center in North Attleboro located alongside Elm Terrace where he resided for decades. At the senior center, he would enjoy socializing with other members in the morning, playing pool and enjoying lunch. In the afternoon, he would join a group that played cards and cribbage. O'Brien, of Norfolk; Gerald Prefontaine and his wife, Maureen (O'Connor) Prefontaine, of Attleboro Falls and Annette Magnan and her husband, George G.
