Norman Lester Mccrady

April 8, 1941 — February 10, 2012

Norman Lester McCrady, 70, of Broad Street, North Attleboro, died on Friday, February 10, 2012 at the Philip Hulitar Inpatient Hospice Facility in Providence, Rhode Island. He was the beloved husband of Cynthia M. Cindy (Desilets) McCrady to whom he was married on December 17, 1983. Born in New Lexington, Ohio on April 8, 1941, he was a son of the late Fred and Goldie (Allen) McCrady whom affectionately called him Sonny. He was raised and educated in New Lexington where he was a graduate of New Lexington High School. Following high school, Mr. McCrady enlisted in the United States Navy and served honorably during the Vietnam War until his discharge on August 12, 1970. He was the recipient of the Good Conduct Award, the National Defense Service Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal. During his military tenure he was given the nickname Big Mac. Mr. McCrady resided in North Attleboro for the past 30 years. He was employed as an electronics engineer for the Codex Corporation in Mansfield for several years prior to retiring many years ago due to illness. He devoted every moment of his life to his cherished wife, daughter and more recently his loving grandson. He strived to be the best father to his daughter and accomplished that goal on all levels. He and his family treasured the time spent at the family cottage on Long Lake, Maine. Solving jigsaw puzzles and spending time with his 16-month old grandson were most enjoyed. A lifelong animal lover, he was a devoted Elvis Presley fan. In addition to his wife of 29 years, he leaves a daughter: Michelle Marie Morais and her husband, Daniel C. Morais, of Chelmsford; a grandson: Daniel C. Morais of Chelmsford; three sisters: Carolyn in Ohio; Dorothy in Florida and Joy in Ohio; his wifes parents: Albert and Lucille (Achin) Desilets of North Attleboro and several extended family members and friends. Family and friends are cordially invited to attend visitation with Veterans Honors on Tuesday, February 14, 2012 from 3:00 4:00 PM in the Memorial Chapel of Dyer-Lake Funeral Home the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, mile on left), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro. Those in need of a ride to visitation may call the funeral home at (508) 695-0200 to make an advance reservation for such gratis transportation. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend the funeral with Military Honors immediately following visitation on Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at 4:00 PM in the Memorial Chapel of Dyer-Lake Funeral Home the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, mile on left), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro. Burial will be in Forest Hills Cemetery, Bridgeton, Maine. Childrens room available during visitation and the funeral. An invitation will be extended following funeral home services to join the family for a time of continued fellowship and refreshments at a location to be announced. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Dyer-Lake Charitable Foundation, Inc., a registered 501 (c) 3 organization, 161 Commonwealth Avenue, North Attleboro, MA 02760 to benefit the Home and Hospice Care of Rhode Island or the North Attleboro Animal Shelter.
