Miroslawa Krystyna (Kopij) Danek, 88, of Swansea, MA, formerly of Barnstable, MA, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 19, 2018 at Country Gardens Health & Rehabilitation Center in Swansea. She was the beloved wife of the late Zygmunt S. Danek who died on October 12, 2006.
Born on September 29, 1930 in Stepan, Poland, she was the daughter of the late Antoni Kopij and the late Karolina (Kaminska) Kopij.
A resident of Barnstable for more than twenty years, she previously lived for thirty years in Boston.
Miroslawa was educated in England, and had the fondest of memories of her time spent there, especially in Manchester, where it was that she married Zygmunt. She then worked for many years as an Adjuster for John Hancock Life Insurance Company before retiring.
Miroslawa was truly one of the most charming and engaging women. She had the unique ability to make friends everywhere she went, bringing a smile to all who had the privilege of knowing her. She also had an incredible sense of style, and was a true "fashionista" well before that term even existed. More than anything, she cherished her role as a homemaker and the time she would spend with her family. Miroslawa enjoyed cooking; spending time on Cape Cod, where she would often take long walks on the beach; playing board games; miniature golf; and taking day trips every weekend. She loved everything Polish, having danced in a Polish dance troupe as a younger woman; and animals, especially dogs and cats, holding a special place in her heart for her late dog, "Baxter".
Miroslawa was the loving mother of Danuta D. Jurczyk of Providence, RI; Halina A. McCormack and her husband, Brian McCormack, of Milford, NH; and Mark Z. Danek and his wife, Lori (Kay) Danek, of Plymouth, MA. She was the adoring grandmother of Sarah Wharton, Adam M. Jurczyk, Colin W. McCormack, Scott Danek, Bruce Danek, and Hayley McCormack; and the proud great-grandmother of Caleb Wharton, Asher Wharton, Emil Danek, and Everly Danek. Miroslawa was the dear sister of the late Helena Kopij, Tadeusz Kopij, and Weronika Walkiewicz. She leaves several nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service and Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, January 3, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church, 841 Shore Road, Pocasset, MA.
Graveside Services will be held at at later date and time to be announced in the Polish National Cemetery in Dupont, PA, at which time Miroslawa will be laid to rest alongside her dear late husband.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Miroslawa to Beacon Hospice, 182 North Main Street, Fall River, MA 02720.
Miroslawa's family would like to express their sincere thanks and gratitude to the staff of Beacon Hospice and the staff at Country Gardens Health & Rehabilitation Center for the loving care extended to her.
