Mildred A. (Franklin) Peck of Wrentham, MA, passed away peacefully on November 8, 2018 at Norwood Hospital in Norwood, MA.
Born on August 7, 1930, in Attleboro, MA, she was the daughter of the late Jesse W. and Frances A. (Wallak) Franklin.
Mildred was a longtime Plainville resident. She was the Valedictorian of her 1948 Plainville High School class, where she won numerous essay writing contests and played basketball. She was a classically trained pianist and played the organ and piano for the children's choir at the Plainville United Methodist Church. When she was a teenager, she worked at the Plainville Drugstore and as a telephone operator at the North Attleboro telephone company, and was the head teller at the Hancock Bank in Plainville for many years. She was one of Plainville's first Special Police women and was also active with the Girl Scouts and served as a co-chairwoman for Plainville's Cancer Crusade.
In 1986, Mildred retired to Florida where she enjoyed golfing and bowling. She was a Life Member of the North Florida Lions Eye Bank, Florida Lions Foundation for the Blind, and the Orange Blossom Gardens Lions Club, where she held the position of Club Secretary/Treasurer and was very active in the Lions Club Seeing Eye dog training program.
After moving back to Massachusetts ten years ago, she enjoyed reading, making jigsaw puzzles, playing cribbage, taking long rides through familiar Plainville neighborhoods, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Mildred is survived by her three children: Cindy Peck of Groton, CT; Donna Peck of Mansfield, MA; and Jon Peck of Westwood, MA, and her grandchildren: Maddi Peck and Jesse Peck. She was the sister of the late Alden (Bud) Franklin.
Friends and family are cordially invited to honor and remember Mildred by gathering for a Memorial Visitation on Monday, November 19, 2018 from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. in the Memorial Chapel of Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro, MA, immediately followed by a Memorial Service at 8:00 p.m. at Dyer-Lake Funeral Home.
Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in Diamond Hill Cemetery, Cumberland, RI.
