Michael Lee Libby (70) of North Attleboro, Massachusetts, passed away on October 19, 2022, at his Pawtucket, Rhode Island residence surrounded by his loving family.
Michael was born in Portland, Maine on July 12, 1952 to the late Joseph Libby and the late Barbara (Crabtree) Selander; and raised by Joseph and his late stepmother Alberta Libby.
Upon graduating Portland High School, Mr. Libby enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1971 and served in Vietnam until his honorable discharge in 1975. He spent much of his service stationed in Thailand.
After his time in the service, Michael started his career working for the Maine Central Railroad Company. This experience allowed him to move to Verizon, where he worked as a technical line engineer and journeyman for twenty-six years, prior to his retirement in 2009.
Michael's passion was his family and friends. As can be seen by his favorite hobbies: whipping up elaborate meals for the people he loved, standing charge as grill master at barbeques, and busting out questionable dance moves at weddings up and down the New England coast. He was an avid New England sports fan and relished in all that comes with a Sunday game: buffalo wings, a loud TV, and lots of hollering.
Michael spent much of his retirement renovating his Pawtucket residence with help from his son, Matthew. He enjoyed taking walks with his grandson, Luke, and regaling his family with stories of his childhood in Portland.
He will be missed greatly by his two children: Matthew T. Libby of Pawtucket, RI and Amy E. Libby, and her fiancé: Kevin A. Gilcher of Durham, NC. He also leaves his cherished grandson: Luke E. Collins of Warwick, RI and his former wife: Mary E. (Sturgeon) Libby of North Attleboro, MA.
Michael is pre-deceased by his brother, John Libby and beloved sister-in-law Karen Libby. His surviving brothers and sisters include: Joseph "Skip" Libby of Portland, ME; Thomas and his wife Janet Libby of Portland, ME; Elizabeth and her husband Harold Hodgdon of Berwick, ME; Peter and his wife Claudia Richardson of North Attleboro, MA; Barbara Cass of Bloomfield, CT; Frances Gadd of Newington, CT; Jeffrey Selander of Rindge, NH; Mark and his wife Dawn Selander of Granby, CT and many extended relatives and friends.
