Michael Halko, 94, of George Street, Attleboro; formerly of Christopher Heights, South Main Street, Attleboro and Olympia Street, Norton, died on Friday, January 13, 2012 at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. He was the husband of the late Meredith (Sargeant) Halko who died in 1985. Mr. and Mrs. Halko were married in 1953. Born in Bridgeport, Connecticut on May 25, 1917, he was a son of the late Alexander and Tessie (Kuruta) Halko. He returned to Attleboro in 2007 from Norton where he had resided for more than 50 years. Mr. Halko was a veteran of the United States Merchant Marines having served from 1942 1944. He was employed as a maintenance worker for AT & T in Attleboro for 28 years prior to his retirement in 1982. Mr. Halko enjoyed the time spent outdoors and cherished recalling the memories of living on the family farm in South Attleboro in earlier years. He was an ardent ham radio operator. Mr. Halko leaves a son: Leonard A. Halko and his wife, Diane D. (Languirand) Halko, of South Attleboro; a grandson: Nicholas Halko of Plainville; a sister: Stella Halko of South Attleboro; a brother: John Halko of Pawtucket, Rhode Island and two generations of nieces and nephews. Mr. Halko was the brother of the late Jules Halko, Steven Halko and Peter Halko. Private visitation on will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2012 in the Memorial Chapel of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro. Private funeral services will follow visitation on Saturday, January 21, 2012 in the Memorial Chapel of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro with the Rev. Daniel Dore, Pastor of Bethany Village Fellowship, Newport Avenue, South Attleboro, officiating. Burial will follow in Newell Burying Ground, South Attleboro.
