Mertice Elizabeth Roy

April 14, 1939 — August 15, 2018

Mertice Elizabeth (Wheaton) Roy, 79, of North Attleboro, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 15, 2018 at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence, RI.  She was the beloved wife of the late Maurice J. Bessette.   Born on April 14, 1939 in Attleboro, MA, she was the daughter of the late Russell R. and Julia A. (Farrell) Wheaton.   Raised and educated in Attleboro, she lived in the Attleboro and North Attleboro area her entire life.  Mertice worked for many years in the office of several home health care businesses before retiring.   A truly kind and caring woman with a warm smile, Mertice loved visits to the beach and enjoyed many of the simple things in life: reading, ice cream, drinking Diet Pepsi, and her cats. She volunteered her time as the Secretary for the tenant association where she resided.  More than anything, Mertice loved being with her family.   She was the loving mother of Pamela A. Brown of Pawtucket, RI; Sharon S. Rzemien of Cumberland, RI; and Maureen J. Richards and her husband, Stephan A. Richards, of Myrtle Beach, SC.  Mertice was the adoring grandmother of Deavon M. Bessette, Julia R. Richards, and Stephanie G. Richards.  She leaves her former husband Arthur J. Roy and his wife, Sandra (Heath) Roy, of Attleboro.   Friends and family are cordially invited to honor and remember Mertice by gathering for a Memorial Visitation on Tuesday, August 21, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro, MA, immediately followed by a Funeral Service at 6:00 p.m. at Dyer-Lake Funeral Home. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Mertice to The American Stroke Foundation, 6405 Metcalf Ave Suite 214 Overland Park, KS 66202, or at www.americanstroke.org .
