Rehoboth

With an aching heart the family of Matthew “Matt” “Moose” Frederick Warchol of Rehoboth, MA, announces his passing on September 16, 2025 at the age of 44 years.

Born in Attleboro, MA on November 13, 1980, he was the beloved son of Frederick Anthony Warchol Jr. and Karen (Gookin) Warchol, both of Attleboro, MA.

In addition to his parents, he leaves his cherished siblings: Paul Warchol of Attleboro, MA.; James Warchol of Rehoboth, MA.; Daniel Warchol, D.M.D. of Rockwall, Texas; Caroline Warchol of Attleboro, MA.; Salong Ly of Rehoboth, MA. and his lifelong best friend Jesse Maynard and his wife, Shannon, of Attleboro, MA.; his Uncle Joe Warchol and Aunt Sandra of Oley, PA; Uncle David Warchol and Aunt Mary of Charlottesville, VA; Uncle Paul Cassidy and Aunt Denise of Attleboro, MA; Uncle Eddie Griffin and Aunt Ellen of Barnstable, MA; Uncle George Durant and Aunt Diane of Middleboro, MA; Uncle Chris Connor and Aunt Lisa of Port Charlotte, FL; Aunt Mary Gookin of Poughkeepsie, NY; Uncle John Gookin and Auntie Jen of Franklin, MA.

He was the loving maternal grandson of the late John A. Gookin and the late Celestine M. “Sally” (Fitzsimmons) Gookin and the loving paternal grandson of the late Ferdinand Warchol and the late Catherine E. (Plaza) Warchol.

Matt was raised and educated in Attleboro and was graduated in the Class of 1999. Matt possessed a rare combination of gifts: a brilliant mind, a natural athletic ability and a heart chockful of kindness. Matt “Moose” was a star athlete, (he was a 3-year two-way starter), a perfect leader, and voted team captain along with teammates Louie and Mike for his beloved AHS football team. He was inducted into the Attleboro Football Hall of Fame in 2010.

Following his graduation from Attleboro High School, Matt earned a bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. He not only graduated with a near perfect GPA but was accepted into medical school at the University of New England. Ultimately, he decided to make a different impact, devoting a majority of his working career as a social worker, where he enriched the lives of so many.

Matt was employed by the May Institute, Attleboro, MA, Riverside Community Care, Dedham, MA and then by Lifeworks, Inc. in Westwood, MA serving adults with disabilities, advocating for their needs, and enriching their lives. It was at Lifeworks that Matt formed a brotherly bond with Salong Ly and brought him into the Warchol clan as a family member. Most recently Matt was employed by Amego, Inc. in Attleboro, MA continuing his social service work.

His work ethic was unparalleled - Moose invited hard work, loved a challenge and so many times overcame any obstacle in his way.

Most importantly, Moose was a devout Christian, worshipping and participating in weekly bible studies with his congregants at West Dighton Christian Church.

Matt was a man of exceptional talent, remarkable intelligence and deep compassion, leaving a legacy that will be cherished forever by all who knew him.

The name Matthew means “Gift of God” and that is exactly what he was. Matthew will be forever missed by his parents, brothers, sister, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends.
