Mary Lee Pompeii, 89, of Attleboro, MA, peacefully passed away on Thursday, September 17, 2015 at Golden Living Center in Attleboro. She was the wife of the late John C. Pompeii who died on January 6, 2003. Born in Newburyport, MA on April 29, 1926, she was a daughter of the late Eugene Lawrence Henry and Winifred Inez (Mangan) Henry. She was a graduate of Newburyport High School, Class of 1944, and retired in 1983 as an Order Entry Clerk for the Foxboro Company where she worked for many years. Mary Lee's spirit, joy, and love for life were reflected in her enjoyment of entertaining: as an actress, jazz dancer, and singer. She performed for many years as a member of the Larson Senior Players of Attleboro, brightening the lives of so many, including those who resided in area assisted living centers. As a senior, she delighted in participating in talent pageants such as the Miss Senior Sweetheart of America, where in 1996 she was crowned "Queen of Massachusetts" and voted "Ms. Flaming Glow" by the other contestants. She was also a "Plus-Size model, and adored collecting sayings. One she was often heard to exclaim was: "Late bloomer is my name: Seeking new challenges is my game!" She leaves her beloved children: Steven E. Merry and his wife, Imelda, of Wilmington, MA; Diana M. Bombardier and her husband, Jody of Rehoboth, MA; Paul Merry of South Attleboro, MA; and Peter Merry of Pawtucket, RI; as well as eleven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and many dear friends whose lives she touched. Visitation has been respectfully omitted. Funeral and burial services will be private in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne. Memorial donations in Mary Lee's memory may be made to the Rev.
