Mary K. Koenig passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 8, 2017 in Attleboro, MA, surrounded by her family. She was 93 years old.Mary was born at South Hadley, Massachusetts. She resided in Springfield, MA until her retirement in 1989, at which time she moved to Coconut Creek, FL, where she spent over twenty-six years. Her final days were in Attleboro, MA in order to be closer to family.Until her retirement in 1989, she was renown to professional photographers as a restoration and photographic artist. She conducted numerous seminars and presented convention programs in this profession throughout this continent as well as Australia, Taiwan, Norway, Denmark, Mexico and Canada. Her publications appeared globally in trade magazines, plus she judged photography competition on the national and international levels.In 1976, Mary was awarded the Photographic Craftsman Degree from the Professional Photographers of America. In that same year, the Chinese Professional Photographers in Taipei presented her with an Honorary Masters of Photography Degree. These awards are for service as an orator, author or mentor. She extended her profession to include art restoration, and maintained a studio in Springfield, MA. She was a member of the American Photographic Artisans Guild, Professional Photographers of America, New England Photographers Association and the Zonta Club of America. In her retirement, she continued her love for art by doing free style painting and had several exhibits as well as group showings.She was married to George Sobolowski and Charles Koenig, both of whom predeceased her. A daughter Gail, and sons Gary and Mark, also predeceased her. Her loving companion of fifteen years, Maurice Cooper, passed away in 2005.She leaves her loving children: Joan Andresen of West Springfield, MA, and David Sobolowski of Waretown, NJ. She has seven grandchildren: Kathy Wesniak, Lisa Morley, Kara Andresen, Eric Sobol, Heather Andresen, Jessica Quinn and Stefan Sobolowski. Her 10 great-grandchildren include Joseph Wesniak, Kira Sobolowski, Mikko Sobolowski, Lauren Morley, Ryan Morley, Kashton Quinn, Kinley Quinn, Isabella Sobol, Ada Andresen-Stoltzfus and Alexandra Collins.She will be so very much missed by her family, her extended family and friends in Florida and all those who had the good fortune to have known her.A private memorial service will be held on November 11, 2017 at Abbey Chapel on the campus of Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, MA.In lieu of flowers, gifts in memory of Mary may be made to Mount Holyoke College, Attn: Gwyneth Merner, Office of Advancement, 50 College Street, South Hadley, MA 01075.
