Martha Mcdonald

Martha M. (Murphy) McDonald, 83, of Norton, MA passed away peacefully following a period of declining health at the Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis, MA on Friday, March 4, 2022.  She was the beloved wife of the late Charles William McDonald to whom she was married on February 24, 1963, and who died on September 10, 2009.
Born in Charlestown, MA on June 14, 1938, she was a daughter of the late Leo J. Murphy and the late Josephine (Roe) Murphy.  She was raised and educated in Charlestown and later attended Radcliffe College in Cambridge, MA.
A dedicated homemaker to her family, Mrs. McDonald previously worked at Annie's Bookstore in Plainville, the Town Hall Bookstore at Wheaton College in Norton and later served as a greeter at the Norton Senior Center.
A resident of Norton since her marriage in 1963, she was formerly a Quincy, MA resident.
She was a communicant of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Norton.
Both Mr. and Mrs. McDonald were area representatives for both the American Institute for Foreign Study and Student International Service and were responsible for bringing exchange students into the United States and placing them with local host families.
She co-founded a local non-profit, the Bristol County Community Residents, with her husband.
Mrs. McDonald leaves two sons: Charles J. McDonald of Concord, MA and Sean P. McDonald of Norton, MA; a special foreign exchange student she thought of as a daughter: Ana-Lena Willstron in Sweden; her siblings: Josephine Murphy of West Roxbury, MA and Leo Murphy of Brighton, MA as well as extended family members and friends.
Public visitation has been respectfully omitted.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend a chapel committal service on Friday, March 11, 2022, at 10:45 a.m. in the Massachuetts National Cemetery, McArthur Boulevard, Bourne.
Burial will follow.
