Mark A. Houston, 65, of North Attleboro, passed away peacefully after a brief illness in the company of his loving family on Friday, September 15, 2023.
Born on December 11, 1957, in Plymouth, MA, he was the son of the late William and Elsie (Fogg) Houston.
Mark was raised in Carver, MA, the youngest of eight children, and graduated from Plymouth Carver High school in 1976. His family relocated to Plainville, where he met his wife Cheryl while both were working at the (former) Foxboro Company. They married and settled in North Attleboro where they raised their three children.
Some of his fondest childhood memories were the camping trips that his large family would take in the city bus his father had converted into a camper. He continued the camping tradition with his own children, staying in places all over New England, with a favorite spot being Quechee, VT.
There were several family pets over the years, but Mark was especially fond of his beloved black lab, Shadow, and spent countless hours tossing tennis balls to him in the backyard. He also eagerly awaited the return of the hummingbirds to his feeders every year.
He worked at the Wrentham State School until that facility closed, then spent the rest of his career working in the construction industry doing roofing, carpentry, painting and electrical work. When not working, he liked to play cards and games with his family and spend time with his friends. He rarely missed a Patriots game and enjoyed watching The Price is Right nearly every day with his best friend Joe.
Mark will be forever missed by his wife of 39 years, Cheryl (Masi) Houston and his loving children, Stephanie Houston of North Attleboro, Matthew Houston and his companion Lacey Carter, of Uxbridge, Michael Houston and his wife Micaela Miranda, of Lincoln, RI, and his beloved granddaughter, Vanessa, who was the light of his life.
He is also survived by his devoted siblings, Diane Douglas of Littleton, Bruce Tuscher of Carver, Carol Houston, Brian Houston of Camden, CT, plus many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was the brother of the late William Houston, Stephen Tuscher and Cassandra (Houston) McAlpine.
Following his wishes, the family will have a private celebration of his life. For additional information or to send an expression of sympathy, please visit Mark's online guest book at
