Mario S.K. Palmer, M.D., 94, of Attleboro, MA, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, April 1, 2018, surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of Donna R. (King) Palmer.Born on May 15, 1923 in Palermo, Italy, he was the son of the late General Renato Michelesi and the late Blanche (Palmer) Michelesi.Raised in Milan, Italy, Dr. Palmer proudly and honorably served in the British Army in both Italy and India, completing his military service in 1946. He then received his undergraduate and medical educations from Kings College in London, also studying in Paris, before completing his formal studies in 1952. Dr. Palmer then came to the United States in 1958, residing in Attleboro since 1963. Specializing in the field of Cardiology, he was a member of numerous professional organizations, and was a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and longtime member of the medical staff at Sturdy Memorial Hospital. At Sturdy, he served with distinction as the Director of the ICU, the Director of the EKG Department, and as Chief of Medicine, among other positions. He was an avid reader, at times reading three books a week; conversant in several languages and fluent in Italian, a culture he loved; passionate about the Arts; enjoyed gourmet food and culture; photography; and listening to Frank Sinatra. Dr. Palmer loved to travel, visiting Europe annually, and trips on board cruise ships. He was indeed a true Englishman. More than anything, though, he loved his family: his wife, children, and grandchildren, all of whom he adored.In addition to his wife, Donna, Dr. Palmer is survived by his loving children: Stephen A.K. Palmer and his wife, Robin Palmer, of Katy, TX; Kim L.K. Kern and her husband, John Kern, of Spring Hill, FL; Peter L.K. Palmer and his wife, Lori Palmer, of Orange, CA; Ann F.K. Anderson and her husband, Douglas Anderson, of Oviedo, FL; and Lauren K.P. Hebert and her husband, Jeffrey Hebert, of Attleboro, MA. He was the loving father of the late Alexander Charles Keating Palmer, who died on May 6, 2015. Dr. Palmer was the proud grandfather of nine granddaughters and four grandsons, and the brother of the late Alessandro Palmer. He leaves several nieces and nephews and dear friends.Friends and family are cordially invited to honor and remember Dr. Palmer by gathering for a Visitation on Saturday, April 7, 2018 from 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro, MA, immediately followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. at Dyer-Lake Funeral Home. Burial services will be privately held in North Purchase Cemetery, Attleboro, on his birthday, at which time Dr. Palmer will be laid to rest alongside his dear late son.A Children's Room is available during the visitation and funeral service.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dr. Palmer's name to Bishop Feehan High School, 70 Holcott Drive, Attleboro, MA 02703.For additional information or to send the family a written expression of sympathy, please visit an online guest book at www.dyer-lakefuneralhome.com .
