Marilyn "Betty" Elizabeth Trethewey

January 16, 1936 — December 28, 2018

Marilyn "Betty" Trethewey, 82, of Plainville, MA, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 28, 2018 at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro, MA.  She was formerly the beloved wife of the late Stanley Austen Trethewey of Roslindale, MA, who died on December 10, 1997.
Born on January 16, 1936 in Dalton, MA, she was the daughter of the late Courtland Piercy Prowse, born in Plymouth, England in 1902, and his late wife, Helen Curtis from Red Hook, NY, who passed away in 1951. He was re-married in 1952 to his second wife and Betty's stepmother, the late "Peg" Margaret (Atkinson) Prowse.
A graduate of Dalton High School and Boston University School of Nursing, Betty worked into her late seventies. She was employed as a Registered Nurse in the ICU at Norwood Hospital, and for Neponset Valley VNA of Norwood and Community VNA of Attleboro. She and her husband were also the proud owners and operators of PIP Printing in Attleboro, which they founded in 1983. Betty worked in all aspects of the business for almost fifteen years.
A resident of the Maples Nursing Home in Plainville for the past three years, she made many good friends there, including her dear roommate, Linda, and where she was cared for by the staff with love and kindness. She previously lived for ten years in Plainville, and for twenty years in Walpole, MA where she treasured her time as a camp nurse at the beloved Sharon Country Day Camp in Walpole with her 3 children, 2 nephews and niece: 7 Tretheweys at SCDC!
An active member of Waters Church in North Attleboro, Betty was a woman of great faith who radiated the light and love of Jesus for all to see, particularly during difficult times in her life. She found strength through Jesus and was a prayer warrior for many, instilling in her legacy by praying without ceasing.  Betty was a warm, caring, and gracious woman. She was an avid reader who shared her love of books as a volunteer reading to a woman unable to see. Betty held a special place in her heart for her late Maltese, "Shug".
More than anything, though, Betty deeply loved her family. She was the loving mother of Sheryl B. Trethewey of Boone, NC; Dacia L. Trethewey of Boone, NC; and N. Brent Trethewey and his wife, Sandy D. (Pais) Trethewey, of Attleboro, MA. She was the proud and adoring grandmother of Devin J. Andre and Austen B. Trethewey.  Betty was predeceased by her siblings: the late "Jack" Courtland John Prowse, the late Kenneth Wingett Prowse and the late Ellen Roberta Evans Prowse.
She also leaves several nieces and nephews around the world, her dear friends: Pat and Rich Balsan and their late dog, "Peanut"; and her special "adopted" family: the Prefontaines.  She also leaves her extended Waters Church family and many dear friends.
