Marianne Mcgown

Marianne Weiss McGown passed away on Friday, March 1, 2013 after a protracted illness. Loving and beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter and friend, Marianne was a source of support and inspiration to all who knew her. Marianne was born on October 7, 1940 in Berlin, Germany to Walter and Frieda Weiss. She graduated from Koenigin-Katharina-Stift in Stuttgart, Germany and went on to pursue her interest in languages and travel in France and England at the age of seventeen. Marianne and her husband Jim were married after she came to the U.S., initially as an au pair, to broaden her facility in English. Married for nearly 52 years, Marianne and Jim enjoyed a full life together with family and friends, adventure and laughter. She loved all manner of outdoor activities, was an avid walker, cook and knitter, and especially loved spending quality time with her grandchildren. Marianne is survived by her husband: James B. McGown; her children, Duncan and Susanne McGown; grandchildren: Tayla and Bren McGown and Marissa and Alec Solomon as well as brother Siegfried Weiss. She will be sorely missed. Family and friends are cordially invited to attend visitation on Thursday, March 7, 2013 from 4:00 - 7:00 PM in the "Memorial Chapel" of Dyer-Lake Funeral Home - the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, mile on left), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro. A graveside funeral service will be held on a date to be announced in the spring in Woodman Cemetery, Wakefield, New Hampshire. In lieu of flowers, contributions to any of the following charities are greatly appreciated: The American Liver Foundation, The American Heart Association or The American Lung Association.
